My opinion on this matter:

The truth is only one. There are no different truths, there are not shades
of truth. The truth is majestic and absolute.

In the particular case that we are discussing we have all the elements to
pass judgment.
Most of the said elements were provided by Rick himself.

So it is safe to believe:

1- Rick is a foreigner visiting, he has no way to know the codes of the
milongas and society at large.
2- He learns from Alejandra, who patiently explains to him the facts of life
at the milongas.
3- He writes about them, he has his own perception and understanding of what
he heard and what he saw.
4- Alejandra comes back, checks what he wrote and she says - This never
happened, this is wrong, this is impolite, this is unnecessarily
aggressive -.
5- He either accepts her editing and then the message comes out fairly close
to the truth or else he escapes her editing and publishes his own version
full of misconceptions.
Further more he resents her editing, he think that she removes all the
interesting elements, all the strength, all the masculinity.

We know by now that it is difficult for him to distinguish between reality
and fiction.
He was willing to take advantage of the general geographical ignorance
talking about an imaginary, secluded lodge in the snowy mountains of
Uruguay. The same as he created the character 'Petroleo'. I am willing to
take his writings as fiction, I have no problems with doing that.
It could be entertaining.

I really believe that Alejandra decided to stop passing information so he
had no other choice than to write about the 'Dancing Empanadas'.

Did we get, from his notes, a clear picture of Milonga codes, society mores,
a clear picture of the city and its people?
In my opinion no, so far.

It does not matter how many philosophical proverbs you may quote, there is
only *one truth, and it is Majestic and absolute.
Nobody can argue with the truth and reason.

Good tangos to you all.

This is a issue of the philosophy since the beginnings. Even at the
beginnings different parties argued upon it. The sophists said there is
no absolute truth, is the perception by the human beeings that counts.
Platon disagreed strongly.
Sciences and especially physics are looking for the truth, and change
their minds totally from time to time. Since Max Plank we know the truth
may be there in some indefinite state, but we change it by our
perception, and we will never know how it were before.
Justice is very interested in finding out the truth. After a very
difficult trial, a judge of the italian supreme court said, the truth is
defined by the decision of the supreme court, period.
Religions have very different opinions about what the real truth is.

Thanks God we have this list, and now we will be able the find out the
truth of Tango :)
