Hey,

Firstly, what's the big problem here? Why all the suddenly apparent animosity between the advocates each of close and open embrace? Isn't it all tango, anyway? Fine, it's okay to have a debate about the pros and cons of each, but for things to degenerate into anger and bad feeling about what, in effect, is the same dance with basically the same fundamental principles, I think it's bad show.

Secondly, Melanie... what's your problem? So the guy sent you a private email response to your posting... big deal. I don't see a problem with the content. I don't find it particularly brilliant, witty or humorous or even well-written, but I don't see anything wrong with it. Leave Alberto alone.

I don't think his private posting to you was either appropriate or inappropriate.

There are number of possible aspects at work here. Consider...

i. The guy (Alberto) knows you or has seen you and fancies you;
ii. The guy (Alberto) knows you or has seen you and doesn't fancy you in the least and is trying to put you off any possibility of stalking him;
iii. You know or have seen Alberto and you fancy him rotten;
iv. Alberto was trying to be witty... but then why didn't he post to the whole List?
v. He's an idiot;
vi. You're a feminist nut, he knows this and is just trying to wind you up and you've fallen for it;
vii. Alberto's doing a PhD in Freudian psychology and has chosen you as a guinea-pig;
viii. He thinks you're a great dancer and wants to 'connect' with you;
ix. You, Melanie, have a hidden agenda.

I think the most likely factor is point number i. I'm sorry, Melanie but he obviously fancies you. Live with it.

Now it's your move. Firstly, he's probably embarrassed at your gross typically female over-reaction, so be gentle with him. He's probably waiting for you in return to send him your take on the Kamasutra. Send him your favourite position.

Do any other List members have an insight into Alberto's motives? Which of the above nine points is the likely scenario? Let's conduct a 'Tango Cluedo' survey. Did Rev Green (Alberto) do Miss Scarlett in the pantry with the candlestick? ...or did Miss Whiplash Scarlett (Melanie) thrash him in the Library with the rope?
