Interesting note about Bad Breath.

Low-Carb Diets Can Cause Bad Breath
THURSDAY, May 13 (HealthDayNews) -- The Atkins diet might chase away more
than just unwanted pounds -- it could lead to bad breath that chases away
your friends.
But there are ways to battle halitosis caused by low-carb dieting, says
the Academy of General Dentistry.
Low-carb diets work by getting the body to burn stored fat as fuel rather
than carbohydrates. As that fat burns, chemicals known as ketones build
up in the body. They are released through the breath and urine, and they
can be smelly.
The types of food ingested also play a role, academy spokesman Dr. Bruce
DeGinder said in a prepared statement.
"Most cases of bad breath originate from the breakdown of food particles
that produce sulfur compounds, and from bacteria on the gums and tongue,"
DeGinder said. "High protein foods can produce more sulfur compounds,
especially overnight on the surface of the tongue when saliva production
is diminished."
To combat this bad breath, the academy suggests that dieters:
Drink plenty of water to wash away germs in the mouth.
Chew sugarless gum or parsley.
Keep a toothbrush handy and brush after every meal.
And if the bad breath persists, see a doctor. Halitosis can be a sign of
a more serious condition, such as diabetes.

Warning, this may offend your sense of good manners. If you dislike
vulgarity, please delete.

This gentleman was dancing with the beautiful girl when he noticed she had
very bad breath.

He did not know how to handle the situation so he pondered for a moment and
finally he asked her - Did you have any dental work done? - she looked
surprised but answered - " Oh! no... just a little bridge, here in the back"
-

In that case take a look because somebody may be crapping under the bridge,
- he replied.

Have a good day, Sergio.

Hola Listeros

About the bad breath, that's easier than body odor. I
contrive to herd a person over to the drinks table or
my purse where there are mints or gum. Then I hand one
to the person. If they make no move, I point at the
gum and the person's mouth. At the same time I pop one
too of course. It looks like I'm just having a mint
and insisting other people have one too. But in a good
proportion of cases, my message gets across. Nobody
has ever looked at me funny about it.

This would be a good opportunity to say something
about the habit of some organizers to provide smelly
snacks, including garlicky dip, onion dip, salsa with
fresh onion, flavored chips (onion, cheese and Ranch
especially), tortilla chips, smelly cheese and even
smoked salmon that requires handling (fishy hands).

Why not fruit, veggies w non-smelly dip, cookies,
nuts, salty chips or Terra chips, dessert, bread/
crackers with swiss cheese or chicken salad,
bite-sized smoked salmon etc.

Hola,
I do believe that the offer of a mint or gum is generally successful. My dance partner is in the fragrance business. She generally has =
samples of the latest fragrance, and has occasionally insisted that someone really ought to try the latest. This is worth a try.

I would like to mention a practice of homicide detectives. They will often rub Vicks Vapo-rub on their upper lip. Tiger Balm is another =
strong menthol scent. This is more acceptable than grabbing you throat and falling on the floor.

Thanks,
DAve K.
