hola
does anyone know if it makes more sense to rent a cell phone at the airport
vs. renting one through verizon wireless here in the usa?

hmm, my advice:
go down to Bs.As. and enjoy a cell-phone-free time!!!
it's so great not to be reachable and available for a while!
enjoy Bs.As. ... you'll meet the tango-people in the milongas anyway! :-))
for the rest, if ever: buy a phone card down there ... for example from
those toilette guys in any milonga. :-))
enjoy!

Jackie, et. al. - As excellent as Christian's notion about enjoying your time in BsAs cell-free, you and I both know that sometimes being able to be in touch w/ our children (or other priority contacts, but - for parents - it's really the kids and us who need communication when we're away) relieves anxiety than enables us to enjoy our dancing even more. Last year for the first time I rented a cell phone there but in the city; NOT at the airport (don't know the difference); when I am home tomorrow, I'll check my records and send the exact vendor, etc. The per minute cost was reasonable and much less than an "international" phone service purchased here; altho' higher on the cell phone than at telephonicas or w/ phone cards, the convience was worth it. The problem - especially if you're a cell phone addict like me stateside - you'll use it all the time there. I went about 30% over my budget for the 3+ weeks I was there last March, after negotiating down some "hidden" (not fully
explained) surcharges. The vendor was able to give me a phone number in advance so I could leave it with people here before I left; he brought it to my apartment and came and picked it up seconds before I left for the airport to return. Further details tomorrow ...

Hi Christian...there is a problem with some cells here
in Baires,no compatibles for cards if they are Us.line
conected(like Verizon)and international rates are not
good for using it as local phone(That is what Verizon
shall charge you)
Jackie, when you arrived,go to any car rental and ask
for a cellular. They rent it to.You only pay the calls
you make ,not the ones that you receive.
Regards.
