Subject: free provider and Prepaid-Mobile-phone in BsAs?

Hello!

I live in Europe. (Sorry my bad english!)
Next week I'm going to go to Argentina (BsAs and another cities) for
1 month.

Q1.
I will bring my Laptop-computer. (MacOSX).
My Provider doesn't have international Roaming-Service.

I need Internet-access from hotel-rooms or at home of friends with
Dial-Up, and maybe in Internet-cafe with wireless-LAN.
What can I do?
Which Cable is necessary?

Q2.
About prepaid-Mobile-phone for Argentina.
My Mobile phone has international roaming service, but it's expensive.
Maybe it's better to buy a cheep simple prepaid-Mobile-phone in
Argentina.
Which one is most cheep?

Thank you!
feh

Although it's been some time since I went to BsAs, I remember that it was
very easy to find internet "cafes" or "locutorios" as they were called. I
would advise against taking the laptop there as it would be just another
thing to worry about. It's easy and cheap to get internet access from the
public places.

I don't know about the cell phone. I want to find out more about that too
because everytime we travel the phone access back to the USA can become a
problem like the $30 per minute unsuccessful calls from Greece!! Thank
goodness for American Express, they reversed the charges :-)

Good luck,

Manuel

Hi Feh,

Last year I used my G4 iBook with the modem to connect to Internet
directly from the appartment. Just bring the Modem cable and clip off
the larger plug (in Germany TAE) and connect the "Western"-plug to the
telefone-outlet (power point?).
(I'm not sure, if the expressions are right, as i'm no technician...;-))

Futhermore you'll find a Internet-café at every corner and most of them
are open all night. So don't worry that you'll be cut off the world.
;-)

Greetings,

Melina

A SIM card from 'PERSONAL' cost me 10 pesos, you can
buy it in some local 'personal' bureau, communications
must be prepaid average 20 pesos for 25 minutes, I
bring my european TRI-BAND phone non-locked.
Service is not so great, and you should find
locutorios everywhere.

Hope it helps.
