2749  Insulting notes

Subject: Insulting notes

John Gleeson tells Carlos Rojas;
"This above posting has to be one of the most ass. . . .ine statements ever
made to this list !"

It seems to me that Carlos politely gave his opinion about a tango subject. His opinion could be right or wrong, (I happen to believe that it is wrong) but this is irrelevant.

Then we have John Gleeson who writes an insulting E-mail, there is no substantiation of his opinion on the matter, he just insults.

We have seen similar notes from Michael Figart II and also from Rick McGarvey.

It happens that those that act as described above offend valuable contributors to the list.

It is also obvious that they have little knowledge and experience with tango in general.

Rick went to Buenos Aires for the first time about a year ago he acknowledged that he knew little tango. He started sending daily reports of "his" interpretation of milongas codes. The whole thing was a real joke culminating with the note on the "singing meat pies".

Michael Figart II, his pitiful act is so recent that needs no further clarification.

John Gleeson has a failed tango group in New Hampshire. He attempted to start a tango group that failed (see his web page). https://john.gleeson.home.comcast.net/

Now he entertains himself sending insulting notes.

My question is for how long should we allow this sort of behavior to continue.
We allow this to happen by remaining silent and in the process we keep losing the most valuable contributors to our tango list.

Jay Jenkins has issued a call to arms and among other things wrote or rather
insulted, needless to say without any clarification thus:

>Michael Figart II, his pitiful act is so recent that needs no further
>clarification.

I thought and continue to think that Michael's posts were well reasoned.

Cheers, Oleh K.

This is getting interesting with all the aspersions being cast around.
Now with the exitment of the Tango festival being over perhaps some of us
are a little wound up.
Might I suggest a nice coffee enema to help relax.

Now that I have posted to this string the moderators will allow this message
through and perhaps the string will die.

My two cents.

Bloody Hell that is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dear Herve:
Could I have a shot of (ahem..) Vanilla with that, a dash of Sacada and a
sprinkling of Moleneta around the top. Make sure there is foam (glaring
look).
Note: As a recent transient from Seattle to Denver,, I understand the west
coast style.... I'll take the elegant, rough and tumble flair now.

(Hey it was there.........).

My question is why are you the arbiter of who makes
"valuable" contributions and who doesn't?

Now I happen to agree with your opinions of the
individuals in question. However, I'm a big fan of
using the delete key or filters, rather than of
letting you or anyone else determine who gets to post
and in what style they are required to do so.

Hi Ilona and the list.
The main think here is ,that you do not know what is
in there until you open the mail.
The filter should be in their keyboard.
I agreed with Jay: We should report to the list what
we know about this particular individuals that hide
them self behind a computer talking sh.. and atacking
,when they are SO poor dancers
Lets bring back the moderator!!!!

Please, lets not bring back the dreaded moderators. This forum as most
others works very well without censorship. The list was moderated before and
it was a terrible thing. The supermoderator took it upon himself to silence
and censor some folks at his whim. I hated that and I hate it worse than the
worst insults and stupid posts.

I suggest to leave the list unmoderated and learn to use the "delete" button
in the keyboard. Perhaps one change that might help is to ask people to only
post and participate under their own name. Maybe if folks could not hide
behind a veil of annonimity, they would be more thoughtful about what they
type. It's much harder to hurl insults and vituperations when one must do it
in one's own name and have to stand by one's words.

Otherwise, please lets no go back to the bad old days of censorship
(moderation). I might not agree with many of the things posted and I might
not like of some of the opinions posted, but I rather use my own discretion
and intellect as a filter and send the offending messages to the trash heap!

Freedom of expression to all,

manuel

Yeah, I agree... the person (moderator) was really annoying as he wanted me
