ahhhhh..i love to "zone" in the dance..closing my eyes and forgetting that
i'm are in a crowded room..when it feels as if there are only the two of us
dancing...generally i react this way to

a quiet relaxed lead

a clear lead

when a leader cradles my right hand or at least is aware of it (there are
times that a certain leader holds my hand on the left side of his chest with
his hand on top)

holds me with the right hand so that the palm is in contact with me

walks beautifully and smoothly

"places my steps"..not "in" their feet but thinking about my body and the
placement of it...

musical - not just on the beat, but understands the mood and the changes in
the mood - a leader that can take 4 beats to take one step because the music
calls for it..

i like to feel taken care of...considered...admired...cherished

i love the opportunity to take part in the dance...to converse...i love a
leader that wants to hear me..that doesn't just tolerate my voice..that
understands that tango has dialects...

textures are also important to me...of clothes, skin, hands, smell, etc....

i feel that people need to feel connected first to themselves to be good
dancers and i can tell when a leader is connected

there's more but right now i'm zoning just thinking about it..:-)

Much has been written on the List about this
particular topic (it's in the archives), but I can't
recall reading anything quite so poetic recently!
Thank you, Jackie! With special emphasis on the
"clear, yet gentle lead". A woman needs to know at all
times where she stands, so she can tell "where TO
stand". :) It's the greatest compliment a man can pay
a woman. In all things. Not just tango.

The Magical Zone
Jackie, I am dying for a tango with you!!!!!!!!!!
I can only begin to imagine how it would feel to have you in my arms, and
dancing to De Sarli.
Thank you Jackie, so much for telling us your feeling when you're in the
zone. I sent a copy of your post to many of the people I know and are trying to
learn tango. I hope it makes them think of what they are trying to achieve.
Your posting really inspired me to thinking of what and how I teach. My next
class will be so different.
thanks
Timmy
