Known as a "teacher of teacher's", Carlos De Chey is one of the most
popular and in-demand instructors of tango in the USA.
Born in Villa Urquiza, Buenos Aires, De Chey's relationship with tango
music and dance began as a child beside his parents who were tango
dancers and organizers of a local milonga. He began dancing in the
milongas in 1986 and counts among his teachers some of the most noted
icons of tango including Carlos Gavito, Eduardo Arquimbao, Nito Garcia
and Gustavo Naveira.
He is the organizer of one of NYC's most popular milongas- La Milonga de
Gardel - and has been teaching tango for more than 13 years in NYC,
Buenos Aires and throughout the USA. He has performed at a variety of
venues including Lincoln Center and his choreographic credits include a
segment of Broadway's Peter and Wendy at the New Victory Theater in NYC
and the Off-Broadway show Ecco Porco. He was one of the first to
explore 'Neuvo Tango' and dances a combination of classic tango for the
social dance floor and Nuevo tango, which is marked by more dramatic,
theatrical moves. He currently teaches group classes at the Sandra
Cameron Dance Studio and privates in NYC and frequently travels back to
Buenos Aires to teach. Upwards of 20 of his former students are now
teaching and performing throughout the world.

Carlos De Chey's visit is part of Woodstock Tango's Visiting Masters
series, which every month brings in superb dancer/teachers from the
international tango community. Many of New York and Argentina's most
talented dancer/teachers have traveled to Woodstock in the past year to
teach the art colony's tango community, which has been steadily growing
since Woodstock Tango was founded in January 2004. De Chey first visited
Woodstock Tango in June 2004 and he is back by popular demand!!
