hi all,
I have been doing close-embrace for a few months now. Definitely it feels
great and while exploring other styles I attended a performance by orlando
paiva jr and marianna melling in Utica, MI. His dance wasn't as flashy as
many had expected. Being a
beginner I was looking forward for flashy stuff. But as the dance sinked
into me I found his precision and smoothness haunting. I haven't found
much on the internet or this list about his style. also orlando paiva
sr.(considered
the most elegant dancer) has a few videos on elegant tango. I wish to know
more about this elegant tango style and a discussion of the videos. Any
thoughts ?

In my opinion, the best video of Orlando Sr.'s style is produced by Al and
Barbara Garvey. They have currently withdrawn the video from the market,
and plan on releasing a DVD in the near future. You can keep abreast of
their progress on their website:

For a listing, description and rating of most videos that offfer
instruction of Argentine tango see my video reviews:

thanks stephen,
the reviews of all the videos in one place is a great thing. but i have
already been through these. I was looking for a more varied and
detailed kind of discussion. like how does it feel compared to close
embrace, about its demand for precision, the freedom available and so
on... paiva sr. is credited with setting up the LA community. LA
tangueros(and others), any thoughts??
And Tom, even i haven't come across any close embrace videos but a lot of
dazzling stuff is possible in close embrace too. New York's Thomas Robin
had come to ann arbor. i found him pretty flashy(and great) in close
embrace!
Best,
Neeraj
