Dear Tango lovers

I want to share my feelings of joy and happiness and tell you a summary of
last Saturday tango events in New York.

Metin Yazir & Vanessa were in town giving workshops. Since Metin hasn't been
in NY for a few years there were many people who wanted to see him and study
with him.

Saturday night, Sarah's "All night Milonga" and our Baila Tango's "Tango a la
Turca" joined forces for a memorable event.

There were over 250 people at the milonga, at one point the huge dance floor
looked like a living organism.
Stuffed grape leaves , baklava and Belly Dancing were the icing on the cake.

As usual Sarah did a great job putting together a well run milonga.

Metin & Vanessa did a wonderful and a musical demo, the first one together in
New York.

The whole event made me think "This is what it's all about".

Thank you all

I want to share some of my observations.

I met Metin Yazir about six-seven years ago. At the time I was a beginner
tango student of six months, and already feeling a ceiling, a sense that
tango is just an other dance and I know all there is to know minus some
practice. (Boy was I wrong!)

Then I saw him dance. Just casually at the milonga. It was like watching
river flow. Ever changing and yet harmonious and natural.

I remember saying, THIS is what I want to do. Ever since it has been a
lovely journey.

Metin & Vanessa taught a series of workshops last weekend in NY and will be
teaching again this weekend.

To this day I am amazed to find out he is still trying to create. He is
still trying to improve the way he teaches. He has analyzed the dance, the
movement, the partnership, the energy down to its most crucial details.

He has an amazing ability to isolate and identify problems, and
communicate - forget grammar but you get the deepest meaning possible of his
message.

Most everyone who danced with him (or taken lessons with him) can attest to
the implications of my claim.

Now that Vanessa has joined him, it has become even more of a fest for those
hungry tango lovers.

Now, if only I can convince them to move to New York :)

And yet a little more astroturfing on TANGO-L! First Ernest, and now
Jak. Uh guys, don't you think advertising workshops on both TANGO-L and
TANGO-A is a little over the top?

Jak, I know Metin is your boss, but come on, give us a break, ok?

Michael

There is no break to be given.
Metin is my friend and my teacher, and we work together. The reason I wrote
the message is not to advertise (if this is workshop advertising then you
are just as guilty by plugging your workshop organization with Sharna) but
to share my experiences with a teacher whom I have highest admiration and
respect.

I grant you the fact that my association with him makes me a suspect of not
being objective.
On the other hand if one experiences strong and profound reaction to a tango
related matter tango-l is a valid venue to express it, no?

But when you post the exact same review on TANGO-L and TANGO-A, don't
you thing you're overdoing it just a little bit? I'd be more inclined to
believe you if you'd just posted to one or the other, but both?

This stuff here and on the Vancouver tango mailing list just smacks of
the same astroturfing that was done over what's-her-face's kiss-and-tell
tango book.

Enough already.
