Dear Mr. Pogros, List:

I don't know what's at the Citadel, but I'm sure someone on the Charleston
tango web can help you:

My non-tango boyfriend and I vacationed in Charleston about two weeks ago.
The city's Spoleto arts festival was in full swing. We were walking along the historic
streets during the day and saw a flier for an evening milonga in one of
the shop windows. I left tango two or three years ago and really don't go
to the milongas much anymore. But having totally fallen in love with
Charleston, I thought it would be interesting to see their tango group. It
turned out to be a lovely outdoor evening experience with friendly people
and classic southern charm & hospitality. I was so taken with the milonga
and the Charleston tangueros that my boyfriend decided not to remind me
when to leave for our scheduled ghost tour later that evening! I have
travelled a lot & seen many different countries, and Charleston is now one
of my most favorite cities. Lovely, grand, historical southern charm
right by the sea. The milonga was held in the historic district at a
place called Market Hall. Its a historical structure above and a open
arched area at the street level below and to the back - that's were they
held the milonga. I checked their website and they actually have a little
write up on the milonga (see below). Check out their site for other
events and individuals to call - they would know more about Citadel info.

My many thanks and many complements to the gracious tangueros of
Charleston. We had such a wonderful time! We look forward to our future
visits.

Kind regards,

Christina Burtis

Tango at Market Hall
Both outdoor milongas were very successful at Market Hall. Classical
Argentine tango music filled the market, and despite the brick floor, all
tangueros were true tango street dancers who enjoyed the event with gusto.
There were many onlookers standing in the doorways who were fascinated by
tango, and a few even participated, despite the intimidating nature of
tango. Just prior to the first milonga, some of the tangueros attended the
concert by Quintango who played to a sell-out crowd of tango music lovers.
Joan and Irwin Singer (Joan is the founding leader of Quintango.) joined
us later at the milonga. Other guest tangueros came from Durham, North
Carolina and Greeneville, South Carolina. For photos, click here.
As a result of our exposure at Market Hall, Nina was interviewed by a
reporter from the State newspaper in Columbia. The article will be sent to
us for our scrapbook. In addition, there is a good chance that we will be
included in a gala performance this fall involving the combination of
Quintango and the Charleston Symphony! All of this is good news, and we
will be keeping you up-to-date.
