Greetings,

I am reading Tango: Una Historia by Ana Sebastian and Luis Labran~a. In a
chapter on tango in the cinema they mention a number of old Hollywood movies (
among others) that feature a danced tango, although most likely to be very
hollywood-style. I have no idea if any of these are available but perhaps a
comprehensive video or dvd store might have them or they may appear on the Turner
Classic Movie station.

The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse 1921 - Rudolph Valention and Natacha
Rambove doing a "tango" in gaucho/andaluz costume.

Bolero 1934 - George Raft dances to "El Choclo"

History is Made at Night (my literal translation of "La Historia se hace de
noche" but it could be something totally different in English) 1937 - Jean
Arthur and Charles Boyer dance to "La Cumparsita."

Women's Privilege 1945 - Irene Dunn sings "Adios Muchachos"

Gilda 1946 - Shot en Buenos Aires, Rita Hayworth (Margarita Cansino) and
Glenn Ford dance a tango.

Maybe a film library somewhere might have these. Have no idea about the
films. Could be real stinkers

Cheers,
Charles

Also missed was "Charlie Chan in Paris" about 1935. Early in the film is a 'Tango Apache'

Yesterday, we were very surprised to see on the Turner Classic Movies cable
channel a very stylish and and appropriately Hollywood-over-the-top ballroom
tango (with some apache elements) in, of all things, "The Lou Gehrig Story"
starring Gary Cooper (Gary doesn't dance, he just watches another couple
while courting his sweetie).

All the best,

Has anyone seen the strange and exotic movie made by a Hong Kong movie director of two gay men who end up in Buenos Aires? the movie is called =
":Happy Together" although the two men are anything but - more than a hint of sexual bullying going on - but there are some great tango =
vignettes including one with Carlos Copello and Alicia Montes.
