Hi all,

I'm needing some help adjusting to a social Tango lifestyle. Specifically, I
find that after returning from a Milonga I often want to eat something
before going to bed. I know it's not a good idea to eat late at night.

How do other dancers deal with this?

What suggestions do other dancers have for curbing there apetite at night?
What foods to people eat that satisfy hunger and don't make it hard to wake
up in the morning?

Trying to solve the puzzle of being active late at night.

Best,

Doug Pouliot

Usually I have several crackers - about four to six - Nabisco makes Triscuits
and Wheat Thins - on which I spread a little peanut butter and I follow them
up with a glass of warm milk.

Doug,

My advice is to drink lots of water while you are
dancing and after. What you perceive as hunger, might
actually be dehydration, especially if you sweat a
lot.

Doug,
Rose is right, you've got to be hydrated. But I'm often HUNGRY!!!
And I can't sleep when I'm hungry...after much experimentation, I found the perfect solution for me is: yoghurt! You can add some fruit, a crumbled cookie or whatever else takes your fancy, but the yoghurt is good protein and it helps me sleep.

Cannot resist not jumping in... talking tango and food? That is moi.

It is possible that one is hungry after dancing for hours, but dehydration
is equally valid.

After trying tango dancing in Asia, the best food I found is having a big
bowl of piping hot soup with balanced meat vegetable and
grain/pasta/noodles. Depending on the ingredients, it provides protein,
carb and fibres, tackles the hunger, and the salt will replenish the lost
sodium (during exercise).

Drinking piping hot liquid makes you inhale deep (cool down exercise) to eat
it, hot soup aligns with your body's temperature (rather than shocking it),
and the liquid makes you feel fuller (which prevents one from gorging greasy
big meals that causes heart burns).

It will settle your body and prepare your mind to rest afterwards.

I cannot think of any meal more civilized than this!

I highly recommend members trying this and email to me afterwards with their
feedbacks.

Buffalo-style chicken wings, definitely. Nothing like
them for late night snacking.

Marisa,

OK, Now you've done it.

Our conversation of what to eat as gone full circle.

What kind of things do people eat for fun, without thinking of health?
Buffalo-style chicken wings has got to be at the top of the list for more
than a few people.

Doug :)
