Subject: tango style choices for total beginners

Hello everybody

I am interested in hearing from dancers (both male and
female) who dance mostly or exclusively in close
embrace (or would do so, partner permitting). I am
interested in hearing why, i.e. your deepest
motivations, fears, desires.

When you first started learning tango, was the style
you learned open or close-embrace? Was this a
conscious choice or did you just fall in to one or
another scene? Was there even any choice in your
community?

If the first style you learned was not close embrace,
do you now feel that it was a waste of trouble to
learn this other style, do you feel it was helpful and
in what way, or do you think it did not matter much
either way.

If the first style you learned was in fact close
embrace, have you thought it useful to ever take any
classes in some other style, to see what it's like or
just to learn something, or did you always think close
embrace was just your thing and there was no good
enough reason to look elsewhere. Or did you take some
classes and then decide not to pursue other styles.

If you hadn't stuck with close embrace, what do you
think your reason(s) might have been for quitting, if
you had given in to them? And how did you overcome
these issues? Do you know people who quit for these
reasons?

If you had a friend that you really wanted to turn on
to tango, would you send this friend to a close
embrace or an open embrace total beginners class?
Would you do things differently with male or female
friends, old or young, outgoing or shy? Do you think
it's a non-issue?

Thanks for your input and opinions!

Best regards
Tine
