TODOTANGOCLUB.COM News: New Piazzolla Museum in Buenos Aires

The "Piazzolla Tango, Centro de Artes y Espectáculos" is open to the public.

Buenos Aires, Oct 22, 2003. Buenos Aires is paying homage to the great Astor
Piazzolla in the new tango Cultural Center, a few blocks from Casa Rosada.

Born in Mar de Plata in 1921, Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla was a Tango
revolutionary that was widely criticized by the Tango community in Argentina
while he conquered the world with "Adiós Nonino", "Libertango" and hundreds
of classics. He left us in July 1992 and eleven years after his death,
Buenos Aires is recognizing his career with a new landmark in the city of
Tango.

The 30,000 sq. feet Center is located in an art noveau building designed by
Francisco Gianotti, down in Galeria Guemes at Florida 100 and has two
auditoriums to enjoy live performances, a dance floor, an Art Gallery, a
Piazzolla museum, stores, a restaurant and more. A legendary site, the
building witnessed an unknown Carlos Gardel singing in his basement almost
100 years ago and inspired Julio Cortazar's "El otro cielo".

A mandatory new stop in every Buenos Aires tour, visitors will find Astor
memorabilia, original sheet music and Piazzolla's own "bandoneones"
including a legendary "Doble A". The museum features the original sheet
music for the tango "Fangio" that the wind blew away when Astor was in La
Rambla in Mar del Plata and disappeared until somebody magically found it.

Following this year's opening of the Carlos Gardel Museum, the city and its
tangueros are starting to recognize Tango's Cultural Heritage with unique
displays that will be enjoyed by both porteños and visitors from all over
the world.
