Subject: What Women Want

Hola Listeros
I was just sharing lunch with a tango friend and of course we discussed only tango. He asked me very earnestly WHAT WOMEN WANT.
He knew the latest expensive move is not at the top of the list. I thought for a bit about what I want, and came up with some things I list below.
This friend thought that was valuable information (from the Mars/Venus point of view) and we decided to ask around and list some of the good input we receive on our website.

So please let me know your point of view! I don't want to do any heavy editing so please send me ONE paragraph (two if you have 2 points to make), i.e. don't send me all your thoughts only the interesting ones. Please put it between words QUOTE and UNQUOTE and IF you want a name listed, include it between the quotes, eg
QUOTE What women like is blablabla. Malena from NYC. UNQUOTE otherwise I'll include it anonymously.

Just to be clear, the question is WHAT WOMEN WANT in general, meaning what is most likely to produce at least a very special warm fuzzy satisfied content feeling at the end of the set, and a desire to dance more with the same guy. The setting is a nice pleasant milonga (not a practica).

Women like to feel that they are good followers, i.e. they are able to receive and follow as many of the leads as possible. It can be stressful to be continually challenged to the edge of their ability because they might mess up a portion of the time and feel inadequate or clumsy as a result.
Women like to be allowed to stay on their balance (assuming they are able to keep their balance), it doesn't feel good to feel like you might topple or swing out of control at any moment. Being off her balance reminds a woman she's not weightless.
Women like a natural and musical interpretation of the music; it is very satisfying to pause on a break, draw out the move on the melody, and receive a double time ON the double time, not to mention a good ending.
Women like a snug embrace that gives a bit with the flow of the dance, and can be readjusted at the appropriate time. I personally like the thoughtful adjustment a lot.
Women may not like it if a complete stranger presumes to do certain invasive moves on them, e.g. leg wraps, and it becomes especially painful if a guy doesn't get the message and keeps forcing the non-leg-wrap by remaining in the position and repeating the hoisting manoever
Women like it when their momentum and inertia is used to inspire the lead, this is as opposed to the fight that results when a guy manhandles you to go into a direction you're not going into naturally.
...
There are things that Men Think Women Want But Women Don't Find That Important

Lots of different moves even if they don't work so well (also known as the Temptation of Complexity)
...
OK, bring them on (your comments)!
Thanks
Tine

What I want (I would never presume to speak for all women!):

I want to breathe with your breath, move to the pulse of the music
through the beat of your heart, surrender myself to you (and you to me)
with joy, and share eternity with you in the space of a few dances. And
of course, I want you to make me feel like a goddess-- if only for that
brief, exquisite encounter.

What do men want?

Beautiful tangos to all,
Carrie B.

Women with presence; nothing worse than trying to dance with a
gaseous vertebrate, that proceeds to complain that you're trying
to dance a solo.

Who believes a man can treat a goddess poorly without suffering
Divine Retribution? For that matter, can a man embrace a goddess
and not know it?

According to my wife, what a woman wants from a man in tango is the same
thing she wants from a man in anything else: politeness, attention, a
delicate touch, a little bit of humor, a little bit of intrigue, and
every once in a while a burst of passion.

Hello Tine:
I wrote an article on this very topic for the now defunct magazine "La Voz del Tango." I asked the question "What do
you want in a partner" and got three major responses

- They want to hold and be held

-Firm but gentle lead. Firm doesn't mean stiff. The lead is so clear (from the chest) there is no room for misunderstanding. Pushing and =
pulling does not improve leading.

-Whatever a man leads, they want it to be on time to the music.
