Subject: Yellow Fever - wrap up

My 2 cents:

To be fair with this list and myself I have contacted the sources of who
provided the information on the claim that blacks were surrounded and were
prevented from escaping to safer areas during the yellow fever in 1871 in
Buenos Aires. Bits of similar information quoting the same sources appeared
on "La Opinion On Line" on 17 Feb. 2004, which quotes "El Diario Ciudadano"
on 5 Feb. 2004 on the stated claim. Interestingly, Pablo Makovsky from "El
Dario El Ciudadano" supports Mr. Corbiere's (political left wing ) claims on
what could have motivated the ruling government then to rid of blacks. Pablo
draws parallels with Alejandro Solomiansky's "Identidades Secretas" thesis
on the state of affairs and mindset during 1871. I have yet to read
Alejandro Solomianski's book. Not wanting to scare away or bore people from
the list I will conclude this topic until I get more information on this
subject. Thanks a lot for your patient.

Here is a link to the Rosario newspaper "ElCiudadano", and the article (in
Spanish) by Pablo Makovsky:
