Aren't knives a bit archaic?
I prefer the James Bond approach ('From Russia with Love' I think)-
special shoe where the blade comes springs out. a quick kick to the
achilles tendon and down goes the man who crosses you or a slash across
the shins as a warning!

It has the advantage of leaving your hands free to carry on dancing.

I have some rulers, that were wielded in grade school, quite effectively. Course, they aren't nearly as good without the big nun... ;o)
