I think it is important to point out that the sexual origin of the
Afro/Latin dances REALLY stems from ancient fertility rites. The sexual
energy invoked was meant to encourage crops to grow and increase the harvest
of the earth as well as increase the human population.

I would bet that MAKING BABIES is the last thing on the minds of the
majority of men and women enjoying the sexual energy of the tango.
Therefore it is unfair to equate this energy with the sexual/spiritual
origins of the dance. The reality is that once sex is practiced (or sexual
energy is enjoyed) without the procreative intent, it places itself in a
different catagory. According to the Church Fathers - this catagory would
be SIN! To the more Enlightened this catagory would be perhaps called the
EROTIC impulse. To state that the erotic impulse can only be enjoyed between
those of the opposite sex is foolish and parochial. I for one am tired of
the male/female relationship being held up on a pedestal even after it has
been stripped of it's 'most sacred' intent (to breed). There is however a
sacred intent in the joining of two bodies (no matter the sex) a sacredness
of closeness, communication, playfulness, tenderness, sensuality, and yes,
even sexuality. There are both hetero and homo erotic impulses and they
should not be denied, judged, or feared. IN this way, the tango becomes a
sacred dance which widens the creative and humanistic impulses. A place to
safely explore eroticism and bond with other human beings in TRUTH.
