I wonder, how WWII was felt in Argentina?
First, it was a civil war in Spain in 1936.
Italians were probably affected by life of their relatives in Italy.
The war was all around. Were there immigrants from Europe escaping the war?
Where there immigrants from Germany, Eastern Europe after it was over?

Newspapers stories? How did it feel ?

You are really into sucking up trivia, are you?
What happened is that some of the German war criminals, speak highranking
Nazis, fled to Argentina and avoided prosecution. Many of them are still
there, I think. How did it feel? How should I know?
But I had one dance teacher from BA, who came to Japan after tangoing at "El
circulo del trovador" I believe, it is called, a milonga in the Northern
area of BA. He always wore a Burberry (?) jackett, and had manners like a
Brit. He was very tall with light brown hair, clear sharp features and light
skin, but told me that his family came from Northern Italy. When I asked
more questions ("where did you get those manners, your looks are unusual and
very Northern European" etc.) he told me that he had been to a British
school in BA, and that his grandfather was a German aristocrat, Baron
Soandso, who kept the family seal at home. And that his dream was to get out
of teaching tango, and work at a Japanese company in a normal job. He had
studied philosophy,and was only 22.
I always felt a little sorry for him. Must have been a lost son from one of
those families.
