I have been in Argentina several times. I was able to make good friends at the milongas.
I came alone. I am 33 years old.
I danced milonguero downtown and salon style in Villa Urquiza. I sat very seldom. I saw my first opera and a beautiful ballet at Teatro Colon, enjoyed a couple of musicals about tango and Flamenco . Admired paintings by El Grecco and by Argentinean painters at Museum Nacional de Arte. Visited a casino at the river. Run everyday at the Reserva Ecologica, where I saw big iguanas and all sort of birds. Went to the flee market at Plaza Dorrego on Sundays to buy silver items, gaucho knives, mates, etc. I visited the Central park (3 de febrero), where people skate, bicycle, walk, or ride on boats in the lake. Visited the rose and the Japanese gardens. I saw the sky Colombus followed to reach America at the Planetarium. Admired the incredible architecture of the city. No doubt one of the most beautiful in the world. Visited incredible cemeteries with devils and angels fighting to take the souls away. Went to the movies at midnight. Had delicious, inexpensive dinners at 2 AM. Went to a
casino where I won 200 dollars, visited the Delta of the Rio Parana. A world of houses on islands. Children with white lab coats go to school by bus-boat, the groceries come to the door by boat, taxis are boats, buses are boats, in summary a little Venice like type of life style. I saw the most incredible Water Falls in the north east, the Iguazu, a trail in the wilderness of a national park takes you to see about 250 water falls, all of them different. I visited the majestic Andes Mountains and tried all sort of wines in Mendoza where I went white water rafting and trekking.
Visited an active glacier, a whale sanctuary and a colony of more than 2 million penguins.
Fished for huge Dorados in the Parana River and trout and Salmon in the lakes of the south.
All this while enjoying the company of very kind people.
When I read that some of you are bored inside a condo or that others waste their time complaining about smoke in the bars and milongas... I feel sorry for them, what else can I do?
