Dear friends from the Tango List

This is what a person asked to Mr.Juan Fabbri, a succesfull businessman , who is at the backstage of this world tango competition just ended. I will translate the comment . It would have been interesting to print this comment into the leaflets of the tournament to make clear what is this competition about , a business is a business , so .... leave any expectation of insight searching or dancing for the fun of it , if you want to compete.

AIR , A TANGO SHOW RESTAURANT , I'M PRESIDENT OF
TANGO ACADEMY FOUNDATION AND MEMEBER OF THE BOARD ,AMONG
OTHER ACTIVITIES

I'VE DONE FOR PROMOTING TANGO AROUND THE WORLD
MORE THAN ANYBODY IN THE LAST 10 YEARS
AND YOU HAVE NO RIGHT WHATSOEVER TO QUOTE MY NAME
WITH SUCH AN STUPID AND ABSURD COMMENT THAT IS NOT TRUE .

As a Hungarian born during the (end of) communism, with parents who never
saw market economy, capitalism, consumer society (buying a car or phone was
a several year procedure (the quality was bad, but it was relatively
cheap)), it sounds pretty strange that in countries where all these things
should be natural by now people are offended by the fact that someone
considers a potential source of capital business. Here in Hungary we are on
the other side of the horse: people don't yet see that if something involves
work, then they should pay adequate compensation.

The comparison to powdered soap may appear offensive, but I don't share that
view. Tango is dancing and, just like music, it can be handled as a product.
The only important thing is - in my opinion - that the tango community must
keep MIDDLEMEN out of the business as much as it is possible. Middlemen, who
use their money to do what the providers (teachers, organizers etc.) are not
willing (due to similar reasons provided by Igor Polk or simply because it
means too much work) to do, while reaching the consumers (spectators,
dancers, would-be dancers) in a more effective fashion on a much greater
scale, will almost invariably end up focusing on profits (which usually
leads to problems).

In the music industry the middlemen make the most money to the detriment of
both artist and consumer. I'd certainly not want that...hence my former
proposition and enquiry to the list.

I just read Mr. Fabbri's answer... I do not believe that Alberto's letter
stated anything offensive as it's content (OK: if it was putting words in
Mr. Fabbri's mouth, then obviously it is a case to be resolved). Just to
avoid any misunderstandings: Mr. Fabbri was neither directly or indirectly
the subject of this post (which I started writing before his answer) as I
did know he existed before Alberto's post.
