Subject: Can anyonetell me about the shoes that Susana VIllaroel sells?
I'm considering purchasing a pair of shoes from this site:
https://www.shoes-susanaartesanal.com/html/caballeros.htm
Apperently they are willing to customize the shoes to my oddly shaped
feet (wide, very high arches) at what I consider a decent price, even
with Western Union fees included.
If anyone has bought shoes from this person, can you tell me how the
transaction went, good or bad? And tell me whether the quality was
up to snuff?
Thanks.

Hello Christopher.
Sorry about the delay in picking up your post on the Tango-L. Somehow I
missed it...!
I bought shoes from Artesenal in March 2003, at their shop in Buenos
Aires.
Frankly, apart from experiencing the staff - particularly the owner -
very abrupt, glum and disinterested (the impression was given,
intentionally or not, that they were doing 'we-the-customers' a favour
by allowing us to purchase their shoes!), I discovered on my return home
to Scotland that I was sold a pair of ladies' shoes (for my girlfriend,
I hasten to add!!) that were taken away and stretched while I was
waiting. I bought them thinking it was another correctly sized NEW pair.
What actually happened?
Well, I wanted to buy shoes for my girlfriend back home. I liked a
particular pair of shoes in a particular colour. Trouble was that they
were two sizes too small. Ok...on asking if they had the same style and
colour in the correct size, I was told "no". Rather than buy the correct
size in a different colour, I decided not to bother. On this, I was told
to wait as there may just be exactly what I'm looking for through in the
back shop. Lo-and-behold, they DID have exactly what I was after.
Without checking, I proceeded to buy the shoes. On my return to the UK,
I realised what had happened. The shoes that were too small had simply
been taken behind the scenes and stretched! Now, stretching a pair of
shoes - in particular, delicate ladies' shoes - that are TWO SIZES too
small is asking for trouble. I was right. After a couple of milongas
they more or less fell apart!
I'd never buy shoes from them again.
However, perhaps you may find a better experience in purchasing on the
web...?
The best shoes I've found in tango shoe shops in BsAs are from:
i. Flabella - good quality shoes, very friendly and accommodating
service, good central location. Two less-than-good points... VERY
unreliable (I'm still awaiting bespoke shoes ordered 7 years ago!!!),
and their shoe bags are pretty poor quality with a tacky tango image on
the front.
ii. Fattomano - nice people, lovely little dog, excellent quality shoes
(one pair I'm still dancing in after 7 years!). One less-than-good
point... poor location quite a distance away. I once travelled all the
way there to find they were closed! Ok, ok...silly me. I should have
rang first...
iii. Tango Brujo - good quality shoes, friendly staff, no job too
difficult (eg making shoes to particular specifications), reliable,
great and very interesting shop with lots of other tango items such as
CDs, pictures, some clothing, bits-n-pieces etc etc etc), good central
location. One less-than-good point... slightly more expensive than the
others.
Hope this all helps.
Best regards
Dani
