I didnt know cortinas were intended to clear the floor - that was news to
me. I thought it was simply announce the end of a tanda and the beginning of
another - hence giving people opportunity to switch partners if they so
desire.
If a milonga is not crowded at all, more than enough room for everyone, do
they still have to clear the floor? Are they expected to get off after a
tanda? At what point can they come back again? I mean, if a woman clears the
floor then a different man asked her for a dance, what is she supposed to
do?
Secondly, as far as customs go, shouldn't one be respecting local customs
instead of applying customs of one country to another?
Thirdly, what if a man and a woman dance a tanda together and realize that
they are having a great time and want to dance some more together? Is that
frowned upon? As they say, moments of bliss are rare so if you had found it
and want to keep it going, you still have to end it after a tanda?
"To say that people have a differenct dance
experience in the US and therefore can throw away the customs that
promote respect, is a lame excuse that leads to poor quality of tango
events. The respectful customs of tango will not stand up for
themselves."
Ok, so what you're saying is if you are IN the US, you should be following
Argentine tango customs? I don't understand.
I mean, I get that there are general tango customs that should be respected
and then there are more specific customs that seem to reflect culture more
than tango itself - i.e. cabaceos's, etc.
I'm confused. And maybe dense too.
