Tango Evolution's Response to Neil's Blog

To the Tango Community,

We have thought this over long and hard and debated
amongst ourselves
how to handle an insult/slight/ verbal attack that was
made on one of our
members this week. We also hate that this has come at
a time when we
were celebrating the success of our festival. We have
also talked to
several people outside of our group and everyone seems
to feel that
something needs to be said at some point or this type
of behavior will
just continue.

Here is the history of what happened:

This last Sunday, it was brought to Mavis's attention
that Neil had
posted a very rude blog about her the night before.
When hearing about
the details of this post she burst out into tears.

Sunday night, Mavis got home and read the post and it
was indeed as bad
as she had feared. She then informed the other members
of Tango
Evolution and we all read the post and was appauled at
its content.

In an emotional state, many of us wrote emails or
posted comments to
Neil's blog. So, as of Sunday night and Monday
afternoon depending on
when Neil checked his email, he was fully aware of the
impact that his
blog had had on Mavis. His answer was to post the
emotionally charged
emails that Vlad and Lena had written to him titled
"Nasty Comments from
my Former Russian Friends". He found no reason to
apologize like a
decent human being.. but rather to continue his
assault.

Neil then sanitized his post by removing Mavis's name,
but left Vlad and
Lena's posts up for several days... which of course
made it look like
they were raving lunatics for attacking him over what
was at that point
a marginally offensive post. Finally, he did remove
their emails.

BUT, there has still been no admission on his part of
any wrong doing
what so ever and no apology for the person truly
offended by all of
this, Mavis. We all make bad decisions sometimes and
say things we do
not mean, etc.. but those are usually done in the spur
of the moment and
we apologize for them... especially when we find out
that our actions
have hurt someone. Even if he felt he truly did
nothing wrong, common
decency would have dictated apologizing for
unintentionally hurting
someone.

But lets not get side tracked, this was no spur of the
moment act. This
was something he thought about, went home, sat down at
a computer and
wrote about and then posted in a public forum (his
blog). And this is
not the first time he has written offensive blogs. In
my response to
Neil, I outline some of those other blogs and actions
of his
(https://www.tangoevo lution.com/ neilsblog. cfm
<https://www.tangoevo lution.com/ neilsblog. cfm> ).

If you go to his blog now, it will all seem very
innocent since his
original blog has been sanitized and the other posts
removed. We are
really tired of this type of behavior and have posted
a page located at:
https://www.tangoevo lution.com/ neilsblog. cfm
<https://www.tangoevo lution.com/ neilsblog. cfm> where
you can read the
original post and our responses.

Some may feel we are overracting, I ask you to
consider a few things.
For the women, how would you have felt if this post
had included your
name. For the men, how would you feel if this post had
been about your
girlfriend, wife, sister or daughter.

We are not the deceny police and we certainly support
free speech, but
at the same time when people act outside the relm of
good taste they
have to understand that their are consequences to
their actions.

Also, we don't want to scare away new dancers or make
you think that
there are many guys like Neil out there. The Tango
community here in
Atlanta is full of true gentlemen and if anything our
actions here
should be an indication that this type of activity
does not go unchecked
in our community.

Lastly, we do not want to start a debate here on
Tango_GA about this.
Please go to our site and if you have comments we have
provided a place
for comments and you can also visit Neil's blog
(https://milongas. blogspot. com <https://milongas.
blogspot. com> ) to
comment.

We appreciate your time,

Tango Evolution

Finally true entertainment: tango drama, tears, etc.

At most Neil can be accused of a lack of taste, but the Atlanta community of an utter lack of humor...

They should now hire a Tango attorney: there is one who advertises her wares on this list...

Waiting for the next episode, settling down comfortably in my armchair...

This is probably the first?time ever I can easily agree with Lucia, so there
is at least one good side effect in all this. But other than that, may I ask
the distinguished representative of that "tango evolution" to please wash
his dirty laundry elsewhere? I don't see how someone came up with the idea
that 1100 list members might show burning interest in the petty concerns and
personal strife between a certain "Mavis" and whoever else is involved in
some place that sounds like the Midwest or something. Atlanta? I have read
plenty of boring postings on this list but this issue is really in bad
taste. Give us a break, will you?
If you want Halloween entertainment, maybe we could make up fictional "tango
ghost stories" instead, of spooks hiding under women's skirts in a midnight
milonga, phantom dancers haunting the dance floor or something of that kind.
Would be more fun than sharing local gossip...
