Subject: Dancing Tango to Other Music
We had an interesting experience recently at a "Big Band" Sunday afternoon
dance at the local jazz club. It was a small dance floor and most of the
music was classic '40's foxtrots, quicksteps etc., well played by about 15
musicians. We found Tango was the only dance that we could reasonably
manouvre around the crowded floor and still enjoy the dance. Then it got
really interesting. We started to connect with the female vocalist, who
looked Latin American, both visually and musically and found ourselves in an
unspoken conversation between us, the dance and the lyrics. It was a
special moment as the three of us "danced" several songs together. We did
not talk to her about it later.
