Subject: Bandoneon solos-Di Filippo Intimo
Yesterday December 11th, 2001 , an outstanding CD with bandoneon solos from
Roberto Di Filippo was presented
at a ceremony in Teatro Alvear of Buenos Aires.
This solos were recorded by Di Filippo from 1980 to 1983 at his home, and he
used to give the cassettes recordings to his friends , as gifts . The story
of this bandoneonist , later oboe player for 20 years at the Colon Theatre
and other orchestras , is really interesting.
Di Filippo was bandoneonist during the 40īs , with the orchestras of Orlando
Goņi, Astor Piazzolla , Julio De Caro & Horacio Salgan. There was a general
consensus within bandoneonist , that he was the greatest one.
Ten years after his death, a special remastering of his home made recordings
has been made, with the sponsorship of the Town Hall of the City of Buenos
Aires, through their Music Area. (Direccion de Musica).
The ceremony was unforgetable. Great bandoneonists such as Leopoldo
Federico, Julio Pane, Gabriel Clausi,.Julian Plaza, Antonio Principe, Pablo
Mainetti , Horacio Romo and Marcos Madrigal, made solos of bandoneon, one by
one.
And the closing was four bandoneonists from the Orchestra School Tango,
under the direction of Emilio Balcarce also with bandoneon, five bandoneon
in all playing .
There were also special mentions for two luthiers, Fabio Fabbiani and
Ricardo Romualdi, who are the most wanted tuners and fixers of bandoneons.
This ceremony is part of a project called " Bandoneon Program - Buenos Aires
nacre/mother of pearl"
There will be future issues of Cdīs with bandoneon solos, also a sponsorhip
to promote young bandoneon students
to continue with their studies (yesterday three awards were given to young
students, they will continue with bandoneon master & teacher Marcos
Madrigal). And also another sponsorhip to make possible the transmission of
the art of tuning and fixing bandoneons from the old luthiers to young
luthiers.
This is a good new for the bandoneon life . Some of the great bandoneonist
are getting older , and it was very emotive to see them, one by one ,
walking through the stage with slow steps to the chair, and making their
bandoneon solo. They simply seat and the music pour , it was as beautiful as
that.
Warm regards
Alberto Gesualdi
