Dear friends from tango list
Today , June 24th, is an anniversary of the phisical disappearance of Carlos
Gardel a.k.a. "El morocho del abasto" , "el zorzal ", "el mago" and many
other nicknames.

I found a most interesting document, Gardel´s will , at the site of Todo
Tango , https://www.todotango.com

Since he made his will in hand writing, his mother Bertha had to present
this manupscript to a notary public, to certify the validity of the will for
the legal tramitations thereafter.

I will translate , just the part of the act of notary public, where the will
of Gardel is quoted for legal purposes. You will notice some interesting
facts , considering that this is what Gardel wrote with his own hand.

" In this city of Buenos Aires, the seventh day of november of 1933 , being
in my full domain of my intellectual faculties , I give this my will ,
assigning my belongings for the aftermath of my death, in the following way:
First I am french born in Toulouse on the 11th of december of 1890 and I am
son of Berthe Gardés ,
Second : let be duly record that my real name and surname are Carlos
Romualdo Gardés , but due to my profession of artitst, I have adopted the
surname "Gardel" and with this surname I am known everywhere. Also let be
duly record that the accounts that I have in banks , specifically at the
Banco de la Nacion Argentina , and all my properties and other papers are
registered with my adoption name, that is - Carlos Gardel .
Third: My marital status is single and I do not have natural children
Fourth:I do not owe any monies to anybody, and I forgive all that is owed to
me.
Fourth:My assets will be established from the deeds and papers existing
after the date of my death
Fifth: On my own , I entitle as unique and universal heiress my
beforementioned mother Berthe Gardés.
Sixth: I appoint as executor of this will , my friend Armando Defino, to
provide this fill and assist my mother during the legal procedure of this
will. Not having any other comitment to do, let it be noticed that this will
has been written with my own hand and I signed at once at the place and date
stated .CARLOS GARDEL ."
