Subject: Confiteria Ideal - Hold your tears
Dear friends from Tango List
I am back to the list, using a personal mailbox this time.
I have been reading the postings to the list through the services of the mail file .
There was a posting from Robin Tara of NY (Tears for Confiteria Ideal) that commented the neglected state of this place.
I went this monday june 30th, with my fiancei , to the evening milonga organized by Alicia "la turca".
The milonga is a success. 40 couples dancing, near 80 persons aditionally , men and women , at the tables, almost non free tables.
We manage to get a table with the help of Ms.Alicia, and have some dancing. Later I begun to look to the floor , candlelights and marbles, and , yes, it is really bad.
I sent a letter to La Nacion newspaper in Buenos Aires, and later talk with people of the town hall. They told me the following
- a contribution of AR$ 59.000 has been given 1 1/2 week ago to the owners of Confiteria Ideal, to do maintenance works. "Given" means that the funds were credited into a bank account, with an architect appointed by the town hall ( Subsecretary of Cultural Patrimony) to see the funds are applied properly. This architect is going now every day to sign contracts with bricklayers, plasterers , electricians.
- in this stage, the main restoration works will be devoted to the ground floor , since the contribution that has been given is part of a public plan of restoration of "notorius bars " , a group of six places that includes Confiteria Ideal ( the other ones are Bar Oviedo , Cafe de Garcia , Bar el Progreso,La Embajada & El almacen- former Los Hermanos Cao)
-there are already structures and some movement at ground floor . I happened to be nearby today , july 4th
- the first floor , where the milongas are held, is not included in this first stage , but will be considered for a second stage of improvements. However , materials have been purchases ( I quote what the architect told me ) , to fix the roof of Confiteria Ideal, since the main cause for problems in plaster and wet ceilings , are the water leakings coming from outside .
Later I talk with the assistant of the Subsecretary of Cultural Patrimony, who told me that there are aditional assistance to the owners of Confiteria Ideal, mainly marketing assistance , to organize some activities to bring people back to the Ideal, as it was in the old days, whith the bar service, some music , amenities. The people of the town hall has the idea also to organize some show , and apply the incomes of this party to restoration works.
I thought members of this tango list would be happy to know this news. This project of restorarion is explained at an internet site https://www.dgpatrimonio.buenosaires.gov.ar/
there is an icon with a cofee cup and a legend "Bares de valor patrimonial" . Unfortunately is only in spanish. It explains the restoration works that are currently undergoing.
Warm regards
