Subject: Dance Shoes (leather, suede, rubber...)

I wear American size 14 shoes, and found it very hard to find dance shoes of
that size (it is apparently size 15 1/2 - 16 in dance shoe sizing).
Additionally, coming in at a fighting (dancing?) weight of around 220
pounds, the thin leather soles do not provide adequate or comfortable
support for my feet.

I found an innovative solution. I purchase comfortable "sport" shoes -
Merrell" Sprint" series is my preference (I especially like the M on the
side of the shoe - I tell people it stands for Milonguero. See:
https://www.merrell.com/catalog/gallery.asp?NavID=MSPR ) - and go to a
cobbler to have the soles ground smooth and then sueded. The shoes cost
~$50, the sueding ~$30, and I have a very comfortable dance shoe for less
than $100! I find that I can have them re-sueded two more times before the
shoes themselves wear out (for more than a year's worth of dancing).

Hope this helps!

P.S. Although I can't make it to Portland this week, I wish everyone there a
great time!

Why go through all that trouble? I use bowling shoes which already have
suede bottoms glued to the sole.

I forgot to add I particularly like the Rocky model of the Dexter brand:

Unfortunately, they probably don't make them in your size.

Hey, how about the Yeti High II:

Now there is a boot! This would satisfy those looking for tango boots as
well as shoes ;-) Not only your tootsies would stay nice and toasty in those
cold milonga floors, but you'd get the added benefit of protection from the
stiletto heels of dancers doing the D8CB w\backstep ;-)

calzado innovado pa' todos
