Subject: A delicate matter about a dear friend
Dear Alberto:
While over six weeks have passed since I read your Tango L posting, "A
delicate matter about a dear friend," I did want, however belatedly
(with apologies), to acknowledge the heartfelt words, "In the past few
months we learned about the passing of two good friends who we had met
through our tango activities. Norma Greco in Florida and Alberto
Toledano in California. This happened without warning, and too late to
be able to tell each one of them how much we loved them, and all the
things they did for which we will always be very grateful." You paid
tribute to my best friend who I met and with whom I began a dance
partnership 18 years ago.
The inestimable loss and the pain, which I suspect will never go away
but has become integrated in a reaffirmation of life for me, is also
somewhat tempered by knowing that we each frequently verbalized to the
other our gratitude for the gift of knowing each other and having what
we shared.
You profoundly and, alas, prophetically for so many, expressed the very
important realization that regret for what we did not say (perhaps even
more than regret for what we wish we had not said) is a tremendous
burden to assume and most frequently one that is quite unnecessary.
There are things that we don't want to happen but have to accept,
things we don't want to know but have to learn, and people we can't
live without but have to let go. ~Author Unknown
Thank goodness for the passage of time.
