Last night at Gricel, there seemed to be lots of new faces on the dance
floor. The first day of spring possibly brought them out to dance. This
isn't the case at the afternoon milongas where you see mostly the same
dancers. However, these unfamiliar faces were less than experienced
dancers, so the crowded floor made dancing considerably more difficult to
navigate, even at 3:00am.

The situation last night reminded me of what we referred to as Sunday
drivers in the US--those who take their cars out for a drive on Sunday
afternoon. You don't want to be on the highway behind a Sunday driver.

I related this analogy to my Argentine friend Diana who told me that the
word in Spanish is dominguero, which means Sunday driver.

So take the word for Sunday (domingo) and combine it with tango dancer
(tanguero) and you have dominguero. It's my new name for those who dance on
the weekends in Buenos Aires.
