Yes, Tim --
It depends on what you are looking for. New or old? Danceable or just for listening? Maybe one of these will pique your interest:
A Portrait of Tango (2 discs) (1997) Gallerie #424
This disc is old tango with a mix of danceable songs and expressive vocal tangos. Disc One is French, Disc Two is Rio-Platense.
Made in the EU but I bought this from a website in New Zealand. Very nice production & great songs.
Etoiles De La Chanson - Les Plus Beau Tangos Du Monde (1999) Disky #FDC 855842
This collection is old tango and includes a couple of songs found on the previous disc. Mostly vocal tangos for listening. Very
nice. Produced in the Netherlands.
Accordeon Paristango (1997) Musidisc #175692 MU771
A strange mix of very old and very new tangos jumbled together. Mostly small ensembles. A few great dance instrumentals from the
thirties. Made in France.
Tango Tino Rossi 1934/1939 CDRG 506
This disc looks vaguely homemade but sounds fine and has 25 songs by Tino Rossi who was VERY popular in his day -- kind of like a
French Carlos Gardel. Like Gardel, this is for listening as opposed to dancing.
Lazar Perry Tangodelic (1996) IMP 945
This is new tango, expressive and occasionally surprising, using rich modern recording technology to capture the all-acoustic
ensemble (no vocals), containing four covers of Piazzolla and six original songs very much in the same vein... Great stuff when in the
right mood. Produced in Paris by Iris Musique Production.
Good luck finding what you need!
