Subject: Going to BsAs?

I have had questions from Listers about traveling to Buenos Aires:

"My big question , however, is it safe in BA? We have been hearing bad
things up here about the economy and strikes. Can you advise me?"

The economy has been bad for years. Unemployment is high. Strikes happen
but don't directly affect anything in tango for more than one night if the
taxis or buses happen to stop service. This should not deter you from
coming to BsAs.

"How is the general state of the city these days. I know several people who
are on the fence in a decision to go to BsAs or not and the perceived
political unrest is causing people not to go. What is your opinion?

The news media seems to blow things out of proportion on a regular basis. I
don't know what you are reading, but frankly, I feel safer (and certainly
happier) living in BsAs (for almost three years) than I would being in the
US right now. My recommendation is to come and experience the tango you
can't find anywhere else in the world. BsAs is where you can have a total
immersion experience with live music concerts and shows and all the dancing
your feet can endure.

Here are some of the good things happening in the milongas:

Hector Chidichimo, owner of Club Gricel, is opening Gricel Norte on November
10 in Belgrano for a Saturday night milonga and classes during the week.

Caribean is now open Sunday (19-3), Monday (16-3) Tuesday night (21-4) and
Friday (16-23).

The organizers of Parakultural, La Nacional, Nino Bien and Abrazo Tango Club
have joined forces to create Salones Portenos and have opened a new, very
large milonga called El Salamanca on Sunday nights.

And now there are three free tango publications on what's happening in
Buenos Aires!

For those of you who are musicians of tango, Horacio Salgan has published
CURSO DE TANGO, the first book on the musical technique of tango which he
will present at Teatro Presidente Alvear on November 14.
