Subject: Juan Carlos Copes - The Legend
Its great to see Juan Carlos Copes in the movie Tango, but it is better to
meet him in real life. The true father of Tango! ! ! Over 50 years of
dancing and performing, being the first person to choreograph Tango for the
stage, yes he does teach the authentic Tango, Milonga and Vals. He will be
in Miami Beach for the seventh USTC Tango Fantasy event. May 17th, thru May
25, 2003. Take this rare opportunity to train with this Legend of Tango,
join Juan Carlos and his wonderful daughter Johana. Johana his daughter has
paid her dues, she has trained in many forms of dance and is an accomplished
dancer and professor in her own rights. Meet these Maestros personally.
Copes is the one that kept the Tango flame alive through the years of the
cruel military rule in Argentina when the generals did their best to kill
Tango as a popular expression. Many others quit; Copes kept going and mounted
the highest of quality shows continually. Even though there was a curfew in
Buenos Aires, there was a Copes show, often with Goyeneche, Troilo, even
Pugliese making his music. Only the Best. He and his company were untouchable
(what does that say for his people skills?) You want to meet him, take your
picture him and remember him for ever.

He studied electro-technology.

according to his own statement on todotango:
"His feet, like wings, remind us of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, two
kings of musical comedies. For Juan Carlos Copes, they were his
paradigm, his masters, his models."
Well, I never liked his style, now I know why, he learned Tango from
Gene Kelly ;-)
Unfortunately, half of the steps we dance today were invented by him....
