My fav dance partner went to BsAs about 2 years ago or so & when she got back, starting kissing me on the cheek hello & goodbye. what a great idea. i've taken this notion to all my other dance venues. i don't kiss everyone, just my good friends & its very well received. i don't think this way of greeting people is common amongst folks in the us?

It is here in Miami! That's the only way to greet with all the Latinos here. If you don't, you could be insulting. Of course, when I visit other cities and see friends and family in other parts of the country they get a little freaked out when I go in for the kisses. It's too bad we don't have that as an American tradition. Go to Europe or South America and it's the norm. Of course, here you have to know if it's one, two or three kisses (depending on nationalities). Otherwise you sometimes get in awkward situations.

So if you want some free kisses, come visit our Milongas here!

Hi Rick, and listeros,

I enjoy your postings; hope to get to Portland for the big event in
October!

Kissing on the cheek is the norm here in Houston among Tangueros. Mostly
just one cheek, but both cheeks for those from Canada, and France, and
some of the Slavs. Our crowd is extremely culturally diverse, which may
contribute to its popularity. It seems to be just one aspect of the
"ceremony" of tango that attracted me to it to begin with. You know,
getting all dressed up, being just a little more chivalrous; a little
more gentlemanly.

There is also a little more tendency for guys to hug each other in
greeting than our normal U.S. mores would generally allow.

It's great to break out of the normal American stereotype a little bit!

Regards to all,

Michael from Texas
