Subject: La Cumparsita - different D'Arienzo versions
Until recently I thought I had 5 different D'Arienzo versions of La
Cumparsita (1937, 1943, 1951, 1963 & 1971). But after noticing
similarities, I now believe two of my versions to be identical.
What I thought was the 1943 version (track 1 on the RCA Tango Argentino
CD - Tangos, Valses y Milongas del '40 Vol. 1) turns out on closer
listening to be a stereo version and seemingly identical to the version
on the RCA Victor 100 Aqos D'Arienzo CD, which I believe to be the 1963
version. Both of these tracks are 4:00 minutes in length.
I note from Mike Lavocah's site :
https://www.milonga.co.uk/tango/darienzo.html
that the 1943 version is also 4:00 minutes in length, and is "... very
hard to obtain".
Can someone confirm my suspicion, and more particularly, point me in the
direction of a CD with the (presumably mono!) 1943 version?
Thankyou, Geoff
