 Somber greetings from NYC,

Many sincere thanks to all who expressed their condolences and feelings about
the horrible devastation we have witnessed here. I personally saw the second
airplane collision and also was watching later when the buildings fell. I was
stunned in disbelief. There are moments when I still choke up with tears
thinking about it, as do many people all over the city. There are no words to
describe something that no one thought possible.
Our tango community is diverse like all tango communities and there are
bankers and brokers and artists and lawyers and cooks, etc. It is possible
that someone in our community was a victim, but we don't know yet. Hopefully
not but there are assuredly some of us who knew someone who worked there.

Many of the milongas were cancelled this week. The new Sandra Cameron Studio
is near Canal St. and the secured zone in southern Manhattan. This was to be
the location this Saturday for Bailemos Tango but will not be happening.
Fortunately almost all of the milongas are well north of the disaster area.
Danel and Maria have decided after encouragement from others that it might be
a good idea to have the Saturday night milonga but in another location. By
Saturday night many of us will welcome the opportunity to dance and try to
put aside if only for a while the tragedy that befell us. There are times
when this dance can make one forget about many things and perhaps this is the
perfect time. We only hope that everyone in our community is safe and sound
and hope for the recovery of survivors although it is really a very grim
scenario. Many of us look forward to holding someone and sharing this dance
on a regular basis and don't even think about the possibility of some of our
favorite partners no longer being around. Hopefully this is not the case but
there are bound to be some of us who knew someone who died.

So please come and dance if you feel like you can. It may be difficult to get
into the city if you are not already here but all are certainly welcome at
this horrible time. We will welcome your companionship. New Yorkers are tough
but even we need someone to hold us once in a while. We will keep on dancing
 and affirming life.
