The PITTSBURGH MUSICALITY TANGOFEST, Feb. 28-March 4, will also have
workshops on dancing, deejaying, and teaching. Special highlights
are:
- Tango Music History for Dancers class with Robert Hauk
- Dancing to Different Orchestras class with Robert Hauk
- Rhythmic Elements with Tom Stermitz for all levels.
Events take place at the Wilkins School & Community Center, Regent
Square. Between workshops visit Regent s Squares charming shopping
district for antiques, fashion, and food.
TOM STERMITZ from Denver, CO organizes two of the most popular tango
festivals in the U.S. Denver s Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day
Festivals, which attract up to 400 close-embrace dancers from all
over the country. His teaching emphasizes improvisation using basic
elements, rhythm & music, and the connection between partners. In
January this charismatic and expert instructor taught at the
University of Michigan Tango Festival, getting 120 new beginners
dancing comfortably and easily on a crowded dance floor.
ROBERT HAUK is a favorite DJ for major tango festivals across the
nation, including the LA Fireworks, Denver s Labor Day Festival, and
Portland s OctoberFest. He s often considered to be the best DJ west
of the Mississippi and was instrumental in growing Portland s (OR)
tango community into the third largest in the U.S. As one of the
top 5 American milonguero instructors, he s been invited to major
cities to teach and last year accompanied the world-renowned Susana
Miller on her U.S. tour.
