Subject: Paso Doble
*The Paso Doble was a well known dance and part of the repertoire of dances
in Montevideo, Uruguay circa 1890's along with the cuadrillas, vals, polkas,
milongas, et al.
It was favorite among dancers because of its holds/suspensions and pauses in
the music. The dance was adapted to the traditional milonga choreography of
the corte and the quebrada. One popular Paso Doble of those times was "Los
Mata Viboras" -- a march - by Juan Russo and originally played by the
military blacks. The piano score fragment of this Paso Doble is printed in
the book "Cosas de Negros" by Vicente Rossi, page 274.
