Subject: Picaresque Tangos
Following my comments about Tango & bordellos , there were some titles of the earlier tango scripts, that have double sense.
Around 1890 , a Tango from Pedro Quijano was called " Que polvo con tanto viento !" / What dusty it is even with all this wind ! .
Dust have a second meaning in the local slang, ejaculation.
Other titles were "Tres sin sacar" that could be traduced as " Three consecutive male orgasms " .
My, what difficult is it to translate this without blushing :):)
Another title was "El 69" , there is not aditional explanation needed.
During this years tangos were printed as scripts to be played on a piano , so the drawing at the cover had a double meaning also. Explicit references were changed by picaresque references , such as the tango " Shave the 7 that we have party on 8" , and the cover was a calendar hanging from a wall, where the page for the day number 7 was falling, and the page of the 8 could be seen.
7 in slang , was the name of the female vagina. This was a tango from Lagomarsino.
" Va Celina en la punta" is another one, the picture was a horse race with a mare, Celina , leading the runners.
But also Va Celina could be read all together as Vacelina , that sounds as vaselyn , a popular male sex lubrication agent .
Maybe one the tangos that is still remembered is " La C... de la L..." , that includes a drawing of the moon . The double meaning was to consider the title as the face of the moon , or the sexual femenine organ .The author was Manuel Campoamor.
Also a an afroargentinean called el Negro Casimiro, violin player, made a tango "Cara sucia " , but in fact Cara was a reference again to the femenine organ.
There were some others . They do not continue as popular melodies except maybe "Cara sucia" , that had a melody that was whistled and/or hummed.

If someone wants, here it is and I think that is an interest point:
Títulos tan sugestivos como "Sacudime la persiana", "Qué polvo con tanto
viento", "Con qué trompieza que nos dentra", "Dos sin sacar". Y algunos más
explícitos que me atrevo a mencionar sin querer agredir al lector con
palabras groseras y si con la intención de que se conozcan la realidad clara
de la época y el medio en que se gestaba el tango. Estaban títulos como "La
concha de la lora" que después se cambió a "La cara de la luna" (lora se
decían a las prostitutas gringas que en general eran europeas) y muchos
dicen que el nombre original de "El Choclo" era "El choto" (cosa que no
podemos afirmar al cierto pero sin duda si el nombre era "El choclo", era
alusiva la insinuación fálica de su título. "El fierrazo", "Colgate del
aeroplano", "El 69", "Dos sin sacar", "Siete pulgadas", "Sacudime la
persiana", "Qué polvo con tanto viento", tema éste último del cual, el pibe
Ernesto, tomó la primera parte para escribir "Don Juan". Generalmente estos
tangos se editaban con una ilustración en su carátula que tenía un caracter
equívoco. Así en " Afeitáte el 7 que el 8 es fiesta" , tango de Lagomarsino,
podía verse un almanaque en el que caía la hoja del día siete y se dejaba
ver la del ocho. "Va Celina en la punta", otro título de tanto primitivo,
donde en la carátula se veía una yegua de nombre Celina, ganando una carrera
en el hipódromo. . Hay un tango de Terés titulado " Tocáme La Carolina". En
la Carátula, el dibujo representa una pareja sentada en el sillón. Al lado,
un piano. En el atril una partitura titulada " La Carolina" El hombre, algo
le está diciendo a la dama. La duda es, si lo que dice el hombre es el
título de la obra o le está diciendo " Tocamelá Carolina". Ernesto Zóboli
da a conocer un tango en 1905 que titula " Hacéle el rulo a la vieja".La
sustitución de la palabra "rulo", daría el verdadero sentido a este tango. Y
que decir de " Cara Sucia". Se dice que su título original sería la
sustitución de " cara" por "concha". Su autor sería un músico olvidado, que
murió en la miseria: el violinista Casimiro, llamado " El negro Casimiro".
Concluímos con esta incompleta lista de tangos primitivos con títulos de
doble intención con "Tocámelo que me gusta" de Mazzoni, " El Fierrazo" de
Macchi y "¿ Dónde topa que no dentra?" de Gobbi.

Subject: Picaresque tangos - Translation
I will mention some very suggestive tango titles. My intention is not to
offend the reader with vulgar words but to clearly pinpoint the reality of
the times and environment when tango was in gestation.
Note of the translator : All these names are funny in Castilian, they all
have double meaning.
"Sacudime la persiana" . Shake my Venetiand blind (window shade).
"Que polvo con tanto viento" . What a dust, it is so windy. Polvo means
dust but in slang "the sexual act".
"Con que trompieza que no dentra". Uses coutry (gaucho) colloquial language.
What is it that it stumbles against, that it does not go in?.
"Dos sin sacar" . Two without withdrawing it.
"La conch de la Lora" . Concha in Castilian means shell but in vulgar slang
it means pussy (the vulva). Lora was the slang name given to prostitutes,
who for the most part were European. (Lora in Castilian is female parrot).
Many say that the original name of "El Choclo" era "El choto" (this we
cannot say for sure but if the name was 'El choclo (the corncob) it
certainly had a phallic reference.
Other titles were equally insinuating such as :
"El Fierrazo" . The iron blow.
"Colgate del aeroplano" Hang from the airplane.
"El 69".
" Siete pulgadas" "Seven inches"
From "Que polvo con tanto viento" el Pibe Ernesto took the first part to
write the famous tango "Don Juan".
These tango were usually issued as music with graphic covers that made some
sort of equivocal reference to the meaning of the title.
"Afeitate el siete que el ocho es fiesta". Tango written by Lagomarsino. The
graphic was a calendar from which the page of day 7 was falling, allowing a
partial view of page 8. Siete (seven in Castilian) is in vulgar slang :
ass, anus, buttocks.
Castilian 'Shave on the seven because the 8th is a holiday' transforms in
slang to " Shave your ass on the 7th, for the 8th. is holiday. or 'Shave on
the 7 that the 8 we will party.
"Va Celina en la punta". It is another name of a primitive tango. The
graphic shows a mare named Celina that was winning at the horse races.
Castilian "Celina is winning" vulgar slang becomes "Vaseline at the tip"
(used as lubricant).
There is a tango from Teres, titled "Tocame la Carolina". 'Play La Carolina'
or 'Touch it Caroline).
The graphic shows a couple sitting on a sofa by a piano. On the music stand
a piece with title "La Carolina". the man is telling the lady something. We
do not know if he is asking the lady to play the music "La Carolina" or the
lady's name is Carolina.
Castilian "Tocar" has two meaning to play an instrument or music but also to
touch.
The man could be saying : please play "La Carolina" or else 'Caroline please
touch it'. ( 'It' being his male organ).
Ernesto Zoboli releases a tango in 1905 that he called "Hacele el rulo a la
vieja".
Castilian " Make a curl to the old lady" Vulgar slang (substituting (culo)
ass for (rulo) curl , notice that culo and rulo sound very close .
"Vieja" (old lady) Castilian a lady that is old, in slang "the lady".
We have then Castilian " Make a curl to the old lady" that becomes " Do the
ass of the lady".
Finally what can we say about "Cara sucia" (Dirty face). It is said that the
original title was "Concha sucia" . (Dirty pussy).
The author is a long forgotten musician who died in absolute poverty, a
violinist called "El negro Casimiro) .
I wish to end this incomplete list of tangos with suggestive names with:
"Tocamelo que me gusta" "Please touch it that I like it" de Mazzoni.
"El fierrazo" de Machi. " The iron blow". and '' Donde topa que no entra" de
Gobbi " where is it that it hits that it does not go in".
