In the scenario you describe, it seems to me that the
man is NOT showing you off. He's showing off himself.
To get the next tanda with another partner. And using
you to do it.

many guys, "Why are though's women giggling".

A good dancer and will show off by showing off a woman, so the other
women will see that he is a good dancer and they will look good dancing
with him.

This is true, men like to show off the woman they are dancing with but...for
a different reason than the one given.
"To exhibit her so that other women will want to dance with him"
respectfully my dear Astrid (IMO): No way!
Most people know each other at the milongas. They perfectly know the dancing
level to which everyone belongs to.
The man shows more attention and respect for his partner than for any else.
Other women or tango steps are way below in the scale of interests than the
care he has to exhibit towards the lady who is presently dancing with him.
Most people try to dance within their own level of skill and physical
attributes however most men will attempt to dance with the most beautiful
women that will accept their invitation.
He shows off the woman because this is an ingrained part of the culture, he
is proud to show everybody that such a beautiful creature accepted to dance
with him, it is with this purpose in mind that he will lead her so that she
can follow easily and with grace, to make sure that she shines as much as
possible. He will dance close to the periphery so that his fiends who are
sitting around the floor can take a good look.
In summary it is a mixture of macho vanity because he is valued by the kind
of women (dance skill, beauty, sophistication, elegance) he dances with and
a related need to let every one see what a divine monument of a woman is
dancing with him. When he returns to the table he discreetly will pass the
details of what a good dancer she is.
It is a general belief that all women are beautiful. So...when in Buenos
Aires...get ready to show off; but... if you do not think so dance in the
center of the floor where nobody can see you. :))
