Subject: Tango as meditation
Dear Listeros
The taxi dancer apparently reads osho for whatever reason
Anyway I thought might be useful for listeros.
In general Osho talks are centered around idea of 'meditation', so many of his ideas are relevant for dancers. For example the idea of not thinking, BEING the dance instead of doing ..etc,
In general I guess
Dance + meditation = tango
Sex + mediation = tantra
And Zen extends the idea of meditation to nearly everything
Meditation + Martial arts, Meditation + Drama so on......
You will find some interesting talks on the osho site[www.osho.com => webcasting-audio talks-insights on]
For example, The Man of No-Mind, The Difference between Watching and Witnessing or Meditation: A Single Medicine
Osho is controversial, nevertheless his ideas seem to make so much sense for all of us.

Chan Park, ( www.TangoZen.com ) based in Wa DC, recently taught a workshop
in Portland on Tango Zen: Walking Dance Meditation, based on his book of the
same title. He has taught classes and workshops on this material in the
States and around the world. Anyone who comes to Tango from Zen or martial
arts or any of the Eastern disciplines will recognize the correspondences
between Tango and those disciplines in the principles of centering,
grounding, and sharing energy.

Tango Zen is an innovative yet natural form of meditating while
dancing Tango. With striking similarities between the two
disciplines, this workshop will introduce methods through which
anyone, young or old, dancer or not, can experience and enjoy the
wonderful benefits of both Tango and Zen.
This workshop will introduce a number of exercises that develop
mindfulness, and full awareness of the self, one's partner, and
surroundings. Adapted from martial arts, meditation techniques, and
sports as well as Tango, the exercises sharpen concentration through
an engaging physical discipline. Through repetition, participants can
acquire a better sense of balance, connection, centering, grounding
and weight shifting, all of which are critical for tango dancing.
AFTERNOON PROGRAM:
Class 1: Body Moves, Mind Flows, 3p-4:30p
For beginners and experienced dancers:
Introduction to the basic concept of Tango Zen meditation, breathing and
posture, and exercises for establishing mindfulness, and connection
with one's partner and the music.

with mindfulness, gradually increasing the complexity to full tango
movements.
