Subject: Tango teachers in Switzerland
Dear Tangeuro/as,
I was recently asked by a Hungarian friend travelling to study in
Switzerland where could she find a fine tango teacher in Basel or
Zurich.
She prefers the style danced by Gavito, Naveira etc. (Tango Nuevo) and
would prefer a teacher who is professional in attitude, but attentive
enough.
Please, if any of you know teachers working in that area (attended their
lessons) drop me line with a name and website URL/address of the
studio/phone number and few lines about your experiences with them.
Obviously, I'd be more interested in your opinion about the teachers
rather than just the names/addresses (those are available on the
internet).
Thank you!
Cheers,
Aron

Dear requester
Regarding your request for good tango teachers in Switzerland, and as a
resident of Zurich and tanguera since 12 years I must react with regard to
postings made here recently.
I am sure, recommendations made for Leo Flumini are sincere and well-meant,
yet in my opinion, with regard to your request for teachers in the Naveira
tradition, completely without any relevance for you. Leo Flumini and his
wife specialise on the elder styles of tango, especially tango canyengue.
I would advise you to try Cecile and Romeo Orsini of the Tangoschule Basel
(www.tangobasel.ch), with 15 years of experience, organisers of the yearly
Basle Tangofestival and in close cooperation with Gustavo, Chicho, Julio y
Corina etc. for many years now.
In Zurich in view of your wishes I would recommend Martin and Ose, Martin
y Claudia, Luca Valeri or Karin Schneider and Rhea Baer. Adresses, mail and
phone numbers to be found on

Wish you a lot of fun and success.

Subject: ARGENTINA OPINION--- Tango teachers in Switzerland
Dear Ecsedy Aron,
Is very good to have different recomendations to give the chance to choose to the students.I agree totally with that opportunity.-
Nowadays , (sincere and well meant) foreign people "know more" about tango argentino then the Argentinos like me.....and are judgers in tango and teaching, because they follow "business festivals" (in good faith, but innocents).-
By they "need" to "React" about Buenos Aires information. Sincere and well meant.-
Is important to know that between "Milongueros" in BsAs you can not find "FESTIVALS" LIKE A PART OF OUR CULTURE. May be for tourists....-
Somebody with 12 years tango in Zurich gives an opinion about a dancer/teacher to start 20 years ago with Copes and others rooth tango people in BUENOS AIRES,also in Europe with Gustavo Naveira Pepito Avellaneda,Balmaceda y dela Rosa, Tete, etc. But him was lerning the argentino way in Argentina, here , out of the European tango business (cassualy she does't mention Gavito who was a very involved in old Tango tradition way from Buenos Aires).-
Any way , I am a limited person from BsAires, I don't follow festivals , my limitation is to know TANGO FROM BUENOS AIRES, NOT FROM FOREIGN FESTIVALS .-
I repeat: Leo Flumini understand the difference between the styles and is a non commercial teacher.-
It is not a opinion about the other recommended teachers, which could be good and be oppened to the interested students.-
The commic point is that you can find in this server information from Buenos Aires ( 2 persons from ), where a lot of people recognized Leo like authentic tango dancer ( he knows 4 styles, and don4t teach all)....or choose information from people that learn tango in Europe.
(might be Europe is the reference of the tango??)
My opinionis : the student must choose between all the offer and select the best for him.-
Cheers
Pablo from BUENOS AIRES

I knew that with sending my posting I was treading unsafe grounds..

Sorry, Pablo, you do not know anything about which road I took in tango.

Sorry, Pablo, I gave no opinion upon Leo Flumini, I only remarked that as
the question was asked regarding teachers in a specific style, there are
other teachers here which are more adequate to that style...
> Any way , I am a limited person from BsAires, I don't follow festivals , my

Me, I also understand differences between styles. I also understand which
teacher is specialised at teaching which styles. And I myself would never
teach a style to others that I do not know very well or seldom practise
myself. I just know practically all teachers from Zurich and Basel, so maybe
am more in a position to give information about TANGO FROM SWITZERLAND, and
Ecsedy requested information about teachers in SWITZERLAND. His friend is
not traveling to Buenos Aires..
You do not have that overview of the situation here, why react so strongly
on my opinion here?

I am convinced Leo is an authentic dancer. I also know Ruben personally and
know he is an authentic dancer. On his first trip to Switzerland, he even
stayed in my house in Zurich.
> (might be Europe is the reference of the tango??)
Tango-L is a worldwide list of people interested in and devoted to tango.
For questions asked on this list, the requester supposes list participants
all can be a reference of tango, wherever they are from. Otherwise, this
list is senseless.
> My opinionis : the student must choose between all the offer and select the
> best for him.-
Therefore, I did not mention only one teacher, but I mentioned several
persons.
All of you be well and fine

With my recommendations for other Zurich and Basel based teachers, which I

Hopefully everybody between us will find what he or she is looking for..

Hi Petra,
From my part, I don't thinkyou insulted or denigrated anybody. If I remmber
correctly, the original question was about teachers of the style of Fabian,
Gustavo, Chicho, etc. And you were correct in recommending those teachers.
If the question would have been about apilado style, I'm sure you would have
made other recommendations.
It's unfortunate that you got admonished for something you did not do! I
hope all is well with you and I send you greetings and good wishes from
Atlanta!
BTW, I still remember with fondness the great time we had with you in Davos
at the Sky-Tango event you organized. :)
Cheers,
Manuel

Dear Ecsedy Aron,
Is better when the people is modest, and to speak just about dancers they
really know.-
Everybody has the right to advertise her / his prefer European teachers.
But when the adviser ignores about the skill from a person like LEO FLUMINI
20 years Tango experience.... ( possible,
watching exhibitions...).
Leo was trained in Bs.Aires ,out of that, Leo had classes with Gustavo
Naveira,Pepito Avellaneda, Julio Balmaceda, Corina de la Rosa, and a lot of
the teachers that usually cross Switzerland.-
This person (the writer) make my suppose her never
has classes with him or frequent his practicas. And You ask about
"personal experiences" and this is not intellectually honest if somebody
spent opinions about and never takes his classes
.-. -12 years buying shows and festivals is not a background to judge.-
Leo Flumini teach "Tango Argentino" (ARGENTINO WAY--NON COMMERCIAL WAY)
I know the background of Leo Flumini, here in Buenos Aires---really deep
knowledge from Tango Argentino - Buenos Aires.-NOT FROM SWITZERLAND
For the person to talk about teachers: please, jus talk about the "fabulous
festival teachers" that do you know....
But could be good to know the Tango Argentino Way...=...Feeling--not show
business,. (You mention Gavito...for some arson was not mentioned in the
"misrecomendation....taking about "Tango Nuevo")
And remember: Hollywood an Broadway are very far away from Buenos
Aires...Buenos Aires is close from the heart and very far away from the
festival consumers.-
I never will give an negative opinion about the other recommended teachers
for ethic
reasons,
because I don't use to criticize people that I doesn't know sufficient. And
I expect they
are very good in the European technical way and I recommend the students to
check as much teachers as is possible
In other words....
Warmly
Cecilia
FROM BUENOS AIRES (not from Hollywood)
N.: I know that my comment is the 3rd from Buenos Aires.
N2: I agree with the publisher: each person must find the self teacher
without previous disqualification.
the censure is just part of the ignorance an Inquisition
The excuses are a good end for this mistake.-

Thank you!

THE POINT WAS TO WRITE ABOUT A PERSON WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THIS TEACHER---!!AND THIS TEACHER WAS TEACHING THE FIRST STYLE MENTIONED FOR ARON!!!.-

ARON ASK FOR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AND SHE EXCUSE HERSELF AFTER BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T .-
THE LIST IS OPEN FOR ALL THE OPINIONS, BUT WE TRY TO SHARE CORRECT INFORMATION---GAVITO DON'T TEACH "TANGO NUEVO" (I THINK, OR I CAN BE WRONG ????)
