1382 Farqyu Uptabut - my name

Subject: Farqyu Uptabut - my name
Hi,
I communicated to Jay in private my feelings about some of the names of
apparent real people who have names with unfortunate meanings when
taken out of context. As for my own name which Jay says is "too clever"
and "obviously contrived" :
Farkyu or Farqyu is a regional variant of the Arabic name "Farqu" which
after
all is just an approximation of an Arabic sound.
"Up" or "Ub"or "uh" is a sort of prefix, I can't describe it exactly, and
"Tabut"
means a coffin or box, and refers specifically to the Ark of the Covenant,
which is commonly known to the religions of most of the reader of this list.
If I could find those words, (which after all are my name), and contrive of
them a nasty insult in English, well, I thank you for the compliment of
thinking that I could be that clever, which is much more clever than I
really am.
I hope that you will check on this, and I hope that Jay will convey to
this list his feelings about the reasonableness of my comments to him,
if not the details.
Sorry this isn't more about tango. I have been thinking about these
suspicions about my name, and although they may be reasonable and
people are mostly nice about it, I feel I have to reply.

Now that we are all enlightened with the meaning of your name and
amazed with your overnight mastery of the English language, we are still
puzzled (at least I am) about the location of your little village. I
had hard time placing San Francisco, California on a Turkish map :)
You were asking if Rick was real. Welll we don't know, since I think
he was a Bunny once...Nobody knows who is real on this list...

good humor, several people have feigned to express surprise that a
person from Turkey should accomplish to learn English, which is very
insulting.
In addition, everyone seems to be sticking their noses up my
backside to smell did I eat Turkish pilaf or American hamburger
for breakfast.
I think I did indicate that I am now in America, at least in my

well. Actually I am not from a small village and neither am I from

terrorists and murderes of innocents, but I am beginning to know
how they feel the Islamic men who are rounded up and
interrogated for no more than being in America with an Islamic
name, and I think you can see that I will not be giving out
my address and phone nuimber on a public forum so you can
come to my house to poke me to see if I am real, or throw
me in jail for questioning. I would like to continue a friendly
discussoin on this list, but I am getting upset of this interrogation.

Dear list,
For those who still might be in doubt, the name Farqyu Uptabut has nothing
Turkish and any Turk member of this list can attest.
Besides, Turkey uses the Latin alphabet and the letter "q" in his name
doesn't even exist in Turkish, he's not even a good troll.
The question is why ? In my opinion, it is obvious that his allegations are
simply there to create interrogations about Turkey's position and perception
in the mind of those who don't know sufficiently well the culture, the
history, the geography and the political guidelines of this country.
Any tanguero knows that Argentine tango is very present in quantity and in
quality in the major cities of Turkey.
The content of his statements were such that he simply acted in a way to
make a fool of himself claiming in each mail that he was a Turk from the
mountains, eating pilaf and so on...
The strategy didn't really work except with Rick from Portland who, besides
his ostentatious spreading of his knowledge of Tango music and arts
(luciernaga from color tango seemed like a milonga tempo to him lol...well
maybe it IS one. You can also try the original version from d'Arienzo),
failed to hold his tongue once more and started using injurious words
against Turks in general.
If he is smart enough as he at least believes so, he will present his
apologies to all of the Turks of this group for offending them.

Well, now, this statement of Sedat really takes the pie!
As this discussoin is not about tango, this will be my last post on this
matter.
1. As Jay can tell you, I changed the spelling form a "k" to a "q" to make
my
name not so much like the English expression that you are makeing so much
of.
The letter q is often used in English spellingss of languages of Arabic
countries,
Azerbaijan, etc., and there are several languages and groups in Turkey, not
just Turkish which is an Altaic language (not Indo-European), and as I have
told you my name is like the Arabic.
2. Sedat is absurd in twisting things around - I never said that I was from
a mountain village (in fact the opposite), or that I am eating pilaf, etc.
Sedat is putting things backwards saying I am making Turkey to look
foolish, siimple, villages, etc. when I am if fact saying the opposite.
3. As you yourselfs are all tangueros, you know for yourselfs the
quality and quantity of argentine tango in all the major cities of Turkey
(according to Sedat). In fact, I think that argentine tango is not
present in Q and Q in all the major cities of US, or probably not
Argentina for that matter. I never said that there was not tango
in Turkey, just that we are not all dancing it, and not I myself
trying it until coming to US. Please check for yourselfs the history
of this list on 2 and 3.
4. You can see for yourselfs that Sedat is not a real Turk, since his
English language is quite good, and his mail apparently comes from
France. (Well, that is a joke, as I think that Sedat is a real Turk,
but that is what you all said about my English and origin of email.)
5. As Sedat says, the question is why? Why is Sedat twisting
these things to be to opposite of what I say? He goes on with
with some statements about history, politics, culture, etc and
(since my posts and nothing to do with politics, etc) that is
perhap the answer? I have to tell you that some
Turks would like to deny the existence of the Kurds,
the Armenians, the Shiites, etc. My apologies to Sedat if
he is not one of them, but I have to wonder.
Sorry to bring politics into this, and this will be the last.

This is really funny and so much more amusing than whether or not he (she)
stepped on my foot or whether I should say excuse me when I belch while dancing
Tango....and today which seems one of universal aggression Farkyu-uptabut
seems quite my sentiments exactly about most things except the beauty and healing
qualities of the Tango which has throughout the ages supported all forms of
low and high types and washed them in the glow of it's wonderful spirit....God I
