Hi List,
Can anyone tell me why Gardel seemed only to dance the most basic tango steps, at least in the films where he's shown dancing? Did he know how to dance better than that but chose not to?

Hi Consuelo, Hi Lista:

As an argentine tango dancer I think that (among many styles) there are two ways in tango dance.

One of them is the artistic way and the other is de social way.

I think Carlos Gardel was a good social tango dancer and he just acted like this. He never tried to be an artistic dancer.

At that time (1920, 80 years ago) there was the best artistic tango dancer called "El Cachafas". He never tried to be the best tango singer at any time as Carlos Gardel was.

When I say "among many styles and 1920, 80 years ago I must admit that tango dance have got a great evolution.

So we must think about 1920 s style (almost a century ago).

Thank you.

Julio C.
