Igor Polk is writing this:
I have posted recently to Tango-L but I have received this message:
Your mail to 'Tango-L' with the subject
Nino Bien
Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.
The reason it is being held:
Post to moderated list
Shortly speaking, I can not stand it. The list was perfectly well without
any moderation. The moderator ( or "owner" ) has refused to publish my
post "Our list is moderated !!!" which was notifying you about the
situation and my inabilty to "comply with the rules"
I belive in freedom, and no any moderator can tell people what to do and
refuse communication. I am not able to post messages to Tango-L unless the
moderator apologises.
So, please if you do not mind, I will ask my questions with the direct
e-mail. I am going to do it with people with whom I had meaningful
conversation in the past and value your opinion. I hope you do not mind.
If not - just tell me.
This list as you can see is CC - i.e. public. Without any restrictions,
and containes acive members of Tango-L. If there is anything like that
already, I'd be happy to join.
You can e-mail me back too, and even to the whole CC-list.
******
So, my question is
"Nino Bien", is it a place where mostly tourists go ?
and question 2:
Who invented "8-count basic" ?

I'd like to hear about why this happened as well.
It's not like Igor is *more* irascible than the average irascible person
on the list, he's warm and fuzzy in his own stubborn and highly
opinionated way.

When you and Igor joined the list, you agreed to
certain terms and rules. Some folks are real tired of
your little catfights and the too frequent postings. I
know several people who have unsubscribed because of
the juvenile behavior. The List Owner has the right
and the responsibility to impose any retrictions on
the List he wishes. If you don't like it, start your
own list with your own rules.

I think Igor's action reflects more poorly on him than it
does the moderator. If Igor believed in the quality of his
post, then there should be no problem of it getting
through. If not, then perhaps he could learn something
from it. I've noticed in this age of instant
communication/gratification, patience has become more and
more of a virtue.
I do hope Igor returns since does pose interesting
questions at times.

That's not the way the list works, Trini. It's the belief of the owner,
not the writer, that determines whether a moderated post gets through.
And more's the better for it.

I don't understand all the contention about this.
First off, as I read the email from the moderator to Igor, it was ONLY rejected because it was TOO LARGE - ie. > 5k - NOT because of any content. Was that not clear to everyone? I've had my own posts rejected for the same reason when I've forgotten to trim the previous emails when I used reply-to. It's true the moderator made some other comments about Igor's content, but I interpreted them to be SUGGESTIONS, and Igor's marginally pushing the guidelines was not at all a factor in having his post rejected.
Second, I think the list is a LOT more hospitable since Shahrukh started being active in the oversight role. My sincere thanks to him.
Third, Igor, mi amigo querido, why don't you trim the size and resubmit the post without other changes and see if it gets through.

yes, I agree. Now if people could remember that Sharukh said just a few days
ago that the 2 or so postings a day-rule is still there and should be
observed it would be even better...
sorry for no tango content

Ha!
(Anyone want to answer Igor's other question-- who invented the 8-count
basic? Or my question: why? I once heard it may have been Todaro, but I
don't recall that it was said with any confidence, and now I can't
recall who said it.)

What ha, Jake?
actually, the rules on www.tango-l.com now say 4 postings a week, the 2 a
day thing is what I remember from the old set of rules...
