Subject: Inflation hits Milongas of Buenos Aires
The dance salon rentals are going up, so the entradas are being increased.
And the cost of advertising in a tango magazine has increased considerably.
I spoke with Tito Palumbo, publisher of B.A. Tango--Buenos Aires Tango
guide, the free magazine that he has published since 1995. He told me that
he has to call his printer every month to find out how much his printing
costs will be. They were increased 50%, so Tito has to charge 20% more for
a March ad than he did for the January issue.
At least there is one milonga in Buenos Aires that has been able to keep the
entrada at 4 pesos for women and 6 pesos for men. El Arranque is open four
days a week from 4-10pm. Juan Carlos La Falce celebrated his sixth
anniversary on Tuesday. One reason for the low entrada is the capacity of
Salon Nuevo La Argentina---800--the largest in downtown BsAs.
