Subject: Jealousy in tango: a related question

Hi all,

Lily's question brings up an issue I've recently had to deal with.

I just started dating someone who doesn't dance tango. Not surprisingly, it has caused some friction. First, there's the issue of frequency: I dance 3-4x a week, and once, he suggested I cut my "habit" down to twice a week. I laughed.

He has only attended one milonga so far (we haven't been dating very long), but sooner or later, if he starts coming more often, I'm beginning to wonder if I have to keep my emotions more in check when I dance with other people. Part of the fun is that I just go with the feeling of the connection. But when he was at the milonga, I constantly worried whether he was having a good time, or more importantly, if he would get upset because I'm blissfully in the arms of someone else. Worrying about these things made me more tense as a dancer.

I realize relationships require give-and-take. He says he won't get jealous, but he doesn't know what tango can be like. Is there anyone on the list who has a non-tangoing significant other, and if so, how have they handled that relationship? It would be better to email me privately with your response.

Muchas gracias,
Linda
