Subject: Just One Week ...
It's Saturday night, and as I get ready to go dancing I have eager
anticipation for next Saturday - the first night of the 7th Annual Miami
Tango Fantasy.
There could be someone reading this who would like to go but needs a little
nudge to make the final decision. (smile)
You know there is probably a special deal on a flight right now if you
check.
This will be my third year in a row. It was Victor Crichton who was the
devil that twisted my arm in the first place. I believe Victor has been
there every year and I know for a fact his presence is always a big reason
for the event's tremendous success.
I needed a little nudge myself the first year. (You know, it's hard earning
Canadian dollars but having to spend in American ... my excuse is better
than yours!)
Well, I got this phone call from somebody called Randy. I almost couldn't
believe he was so friendly to a complete stranger, but when he laughs, you
feel, how can I not like this guy?
I got on a plane and showed up. Lydia gave me a big hug and all of a sudden
I had another new friend that I both adored and respected for what she and
Randy have done to grow tango for TANGO PEOPLE.
From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, it's a whirlwind of hugs
and kisses and embraces and laughter and tango, tango, tango. Lots of
Pugliese in your ears. The flavour is decidedly Argentine, believe it or
not. The teachers are happy to be there and you feel like family with them.
They are at the peak of their lives and when you are around them so much,
you know you are in a special moment in your own life.
The milongas bring out the local people who represent the richness of Latin
America. That's a nice thing about Miami - it's so close to the USA ...
I can't tell you how satisfying it is to dance in a trance all night and
then hit the giant Fontainebleau pool at 4 in the morning and relax after
under the warm stars; chatting with someone who could be from Germany or New
Jersey or Australia or South Africa or Uruguay or California or - perish the
thought! - Canada.
Going to Miami South Beach for the Tango Fantasy has enriched my life in so
many ways it is impossible tell you.
I would like to say more about how great it is for the Argentino teachers
who are so well-treated each year; how important it is to support a premiere
American event in troubled economic times; how important it is for us to
meet and mingle to strengthen our communities back home and draw energy from
others we meet.
But, I've got to go dancing. And I hope you have to go to the phone to book
your flight.
Meaning every word sincerely,
Keith
